From what I have read, Gandolfini is thrilled that his days as Tony are over and he can't wait to distance himself. Chase mentioned in a 2006 interview that he would consider a movie in 3-4 years if he had a good enough idea.
That doesn't seem as if a movie deal is inked.
What would the movie be about? The Sopranos: The Musical ? Tony Goes on Trial? Paulie Does StandUp? Carmella Becomes a Real Estate Mogul?
It would have to be a story line that could be wrapped out with ambiguity or else you all would be just frustrated and howling for another movie.
David Chase has never followed convention and is probably sitting somewhere right now, giggling.
The only realistic (in my opinion) plotline for a movie sequel would be about Tony's indictment/arrest/trial moving away from the current genre into the courtroom genre. I don't think that the world is short of courtroom dramas.
Eh, whatever. Sorry you guys were so disappointed. I loved it.
And LOST? Blah?! Blasphemy!
I worship my little Damon Lindelof.

Me and my dad were discussing how they should do a pre-story movie, as in Tony's fathere's days. Of course if anything, that's the furthest from happening. |

that actually isn't far off. the guy who plays Phil Leotardo was on Adam Corolla a few weeks ago & said that they might be planning a prequel. so your guess is the most accurate. |

However, it would be almost an entirely different cast of younger actors that could convincingly portray the main characters as much younger. As much as I enjoy Chase's writing, the actors have done such a phenomenal job bringing the characters to life. That would not be the case with a prequel.

The final scene was filmed in where i grew up so it looked really funny to me. when it went out i jumped out yelling wtf! and then figured it out. now that i've had some time to think about it, i really liked the ending, very fitting for the series. |

Their performances were so seamless, so superb and they fit the characters like a glove so well that it will be actually very difficult for them during the rest of their careers to escape Carmelia's and Tony's shadows......Gotta give a special kudos to james G. whose charismatic performace made fat, big, balding, macho, savage men somewhat sexy in the eyes of women, who would normally not be attracted to that kind. |

| | | I could see there being a spin-off.. and why would they need tons of younger main actors for a prequal? All they would need is Jr. basically...and whoever else was friend's with Tony's dad that was also on Sopranos. The prequal isn't going to happen anyway, it was just an idea my dad thought up for gods sake. |

| | | I take it that David Chase would not be involved with the prequel? He sounded like he was done with the Sopranos, but who knows I suppose...
It just really seems like James Gandolfini, who was in nearly every
gut-wrenching scene of every episode of that show and David Chase gave that show an awful lot of its heart and soul. I know that statement is going to piss off a lot of people, but take those two out of the equation:
This is only being said for the purposes of debate, btw:
Without the two of them, do you guys feel that a prequel could be anywhere near as compelling as "The Sopranos?" or do you think that it may be a desperate attempt by some of the actors to hang onto a good gig that should have ended when it did? |

ill try to find the email later.
it was basically a whole bunch of bullshit trying to explain the ending using past episodes to clue you in. but it was all lies. About how the guy that goes into the bathroom was phils nephew from an old season, about how the black guys were tryna pop tony again since the first time they only shot him by the ear, and how he got killed cause it goes black before meadow walks in because the bell on the door doesnt ring when she walks in like it did with everyone else, but it DOES. i rewatched. lol.
the only thing from the email that made logical sense was when they brought up how tony and bobby were talking about in past episodes and bobby says some shit like "i bet you see all black and thats it" and yeah you know the rest.
i deleted the email but ill find another copy.
its some douche wanting attention and propaganda that's not true at all. |

| | | I read that the movie might not be a prequel or sequel, but rather they pick a day in 2006 that we didn't see...
If they wait too long though, everyone would age far beyond what they would reasonably look like in 2006. |

| | | They actually filmed three endings and even the actors only saw the chosen finale ending when they did the premiere in the theatre on Sunday night.
I just hope that a shit network doesn't do the spin off...it would alter everything.
I am still disappointed I really needed closure! |

| | | David Chase was quoted in the paper today as saying no movies, and I think I heard that '3 endings' thing is an unconfirmed rumor. Edited to add: He said no specific plans for movies, and he thinks not, but 'never say never.'
An actor, especially one who played a tertiary character who is old enough to be played by the same actor in a prequel as long as they do a good makeup and hair job, really doesn’t mean anything. It probably means he wants to do it, and he’s hoping to get a buzz going to essentially force it.
I'm fine with the ending. I should really get around to posting about the episode instead of the rumor mill.
