| | I adore Bruhl as well. He's excellent in Ladies In Lavender with Maggie Smith and Judi Dench. He is also very good in Love In Thoughts and as you already mentioned Goodbye Lenin and The Edukators.
These are some of my favorite german films...
The Marriage Of Maria Braun (by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, a metaphor for German as a country through the story of a suffering woman)
Ali : Fear Eats The Soul (a retelling of All That Heaven Allows about a 50 something German woman who marries a young turkish guest worker and is shunned by her community)
The Tin Drum (a creepy kid who decides to stunt his growth by jumping from a flight of stairs)
Lola + Billidikid (a turkish cross dresser meets a grisely fate and his younger brother and lover seek revenge)
Mariane and Julliane (two sisters, one a political activist and the other a standard woman)
Aguirre, The Wrath of God (the story of a power mad conquistador)

| | | (I wasn't very impressed by The Edukators)
I did adore the scene where she serves the liquor in the wrong glass. I've been in that position before. |

Aguirre, The Wrath of God (the story of a power mad conquistador) | yes to all of the above.
i can never suggest enough fassbinder: maria braun and ali above, in a year of 13 moons, the bitter tears of petra von kant, fox and his friends, veronika voss, etc.
triumph of the will is pretty essential. so is metropolis and the cabinet of dr. caligari.
also the murderers are among us which was the first film produced in germany after WWII.
m is a classic but i don't care for it all that much.
nowhere in africa is a really amazing (recent) film.

| | He had a longterm relationship with Jessica Schwarz (who starred in "the perfume") ... Jessica Schwarz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
They fell in love during filming "Nichts bereuen" (Regret nothing!?) together.
They had to do a sex scene for this movie, and later they referred to this scene as their "turning point" in interviews. |
