he was meant to be sexy in the film, right? but in the book. was he sexy? because i dont think he should be. but in the film he was. | Ben Whishaw couldn't not be sexy. But I don't know, from what I know about the book it seems weird that they picked someone so hot; though I guess it makes more people go and watch it.
Should I watch the film before I read the book? I downloaded it yesterday. (Does anyone want it? Hope I don't get banned for saying that)

| | | I don't usually watch murder films but something made me pick it a while ago from dvd shop. At the beginning I thought it wasn't anything spectacular but it just kept on getting better and better and I love the ending. I really want to read the book now.
And the actor in it is sexy. |

| | | i think i like it for the same reasons that i like (well actually i love) quills.
i kind of felt totally prudish during that mass sex scene. but how many people were there to look at. and how long were they filming that? lol. when they woke up after, and the bishop man.
i think men should wear those aqua buckle shoes again.

I liked the film. I did really enjoy it.
But teh book was AMAZING and the filmd oculd have been better but was always going to be really hard to do I guess. Apparently loads of directors (including Kubrick) wanted to do it.
It was nothing special or that exciting or memorable and I kind of fancied him which I shouldnt have and that means it was funny casting I think.
The film just did not speak to me like the book did.

| | | i didn't find ben whishaw sexy in the film, so that aspect didn't bother me. i love both the book and the film, probably the book more because it's difficult to convey a lot of the detail on film. |

| | | I would have made people watch it in smelly cinemas with the smells changing all the time, or just not bothered or something.
did you still not read the book now?

| | | I saw this when it was in cinema, and liked it. The narration was really good and I felt they managed to convey the sense of Grenouille's passion and ability.
I also like that Grenouille is French for frog.

| | | the lead is sexy? he looked like the guy from supergrass. whatever, he was okay. the film is mesmerizing. it probably is shit compared to the book but the murder scenes were filmed like erotic scenes. the first girl he killed and what he did to her, almost vampiric. the mass orgy though. did anyone see two men kissing or whatever? two women are seen kissing but two men, no? geez. |

| | | It's fucking garbage.
You know how usually people watch movies and end up thinking the book was a lot better?
This movie makes you wonder if the book was even that good in the first place. It never really strays from the novel, and I can't recall anything major being omitted from the film. But it seems completely pointless.
Maybe some stories are just meant to be told in the form of novels and not bloodless art movies. |

| | | I just watched the film, and I'm going to town especially tommorrow to buy (or borrow) a copy of the book. I really enjoyed the film, and I imagine that the book will be completely delicious in its descriptions of the smells. I was craving for the descriptions of the smell of stones, glass etc.
It was a film that to me cried out to people to read the book if they hadn't already. As though the skeleton of the book was there, but the director knew that half the pleasure of the story is found in the use of language in the book, and didn't try and compete or translate that. It seemed pretty celebratory of the text rather than trying to completely emulate the text.
But I haven't read the book yet, so I may be getting exicted about nonsense. |
