the film does show the "truth" of the movement or whatever; the skinheads start out as just a normal gang of kids, not racists or particularly violent or anything, then the group's infiltrated by some neo-nazi nutter. and not all of them become involved with the national front. go see for yourself.

Yes. They live in barns, wear b/w camo pants, bombers and have intercorse with any animal they can catch. And on occation, overweight females with yellow hair.

To be fair, the inciter in the group is an old mate that has spent the last few years in jail, for their benefit, and has gone stark nutters. We don't really know what happened to him in there, we just know it wasn't pretty, and included exposure to neonazi-types. I didn't really like This is England that much, it surely took an Afterschool Special turn at the end, but introducing the dynamic that this is an old friend that the leaders in the gang owe a lot to, really pushed events forward--this is what motivates this racist development: Their allegiance to an old friend.

Plus, I think they did a good job of keeping this provocateur-friend recognizably human.

this made me laugh. a lot. sooo true. if you could understand italian i'd link you a genius comic about boneheads. (actually about a girl that was sooo punk and then started dating one of the most famous nazis in italy and then wentnazipunk. but it does so make sense.)

In sweden no real skins are nazis, really. It's mainly those i described above, those from the countryside that knows/cares nothing about skinhead culture or style.
If someone is stylish, you know they're not nazi.
Swedish skinheads are usually VERY picky about being unpolitical, so they often listed to nazi-ish crap, RAC and shit like that.
Then of course there's sharpskins, but theyre mainly freshcuts and loneskins.

To anyone here thats not involved in the culture or other subcultures, skinhead means nazi, they say skinheads on the newn thinking it means racists. Even if you just wear Docs people think you're nazi here, that is very annoying, getting looks because people think a certain pair of SHOES can only be worn by nazis.
Also if they'll just google skinhead, within 5 mins they'll realise how wrong they were.. So for anyone remotely involved, they skinhead=nazi thing is so far away you just forget about it then get reminded and it just feels ridiculous.

i only just got round to seeing this last night and i LOVED it. shaun is an absolute little star, what an amazing actor for his age. hmm i don't really know what to say just that it was excellent. as someone else said though, i do hate that these type of movies have (american history x) have basically the same plot.
ah it was weird though. so many little things in the film were so close to home.

i don't think joining the national front was something that was motivated by their loyalty to a friend. those that broke away from the original gang cited reasons such as; being "made to feel that small" by the rest of them; thinking there was sound reasoning behind his racist accusations; and, being a little boy looking for some direction in his life.
