Where The Day Takes You made me want to run away and be a homeless drug-addled teen living in rags under a motorway flyover, but in a positive sort of way, so I guess it doesn't count.

Requiem for a Dream was the first thing I thought of when I read the title of the thread. The mother kills me every time.

Its heartbreaking. I recognise the actress, what else has she been in?

Salo: 120 Days of Sodom.

I can't watch it very often, but when I do, the world isn't a very nice place to be. I've watched enough so-called "horror" films, but Salo and I Spit on Your Grave are the only two films to really bother me and make me sob. They're true horror, as they depict humanity at its worst.

It's enough to make me want to run into Freddy Krueger's comforting embrace.

Is that [120 Days Of Sodom] the one based-off a book by the Marquis De Sade?!

Anyways, as for me... "Monster". Really, watch it. It makes me really sad, the things people can do when pushed to such an extreme, and the fact that they were pushed to said extreme.

Certainly is. The film is painfully out of print, but I was able to download a torrent of the French release, which is the most complete version with an immaculate print. The film's cinematography and the setting in a stunning mansion are just beautiful; but the film itself is not.

I want to look away from it, but I cannot.

Dancer In The Dark.

The whole experience of watching that movie, especially the ending, was like getting knifed in the heart.

I still haven't seen it, but everyone keeps telling me to. They then of course add, "I cried sooo much at the end!"

Yeah, that's really got me rushing out to rent it.

Pi, Akira, the Guinea Pig series, The Sweet Hereafter, Dancer In The Dark.
I didn't feel like crap after Requiem. I was sort of relieved... or something. But sort of crap.

The movie actually is pretty good but it will leave you an emotional mess.

If you do rent it also rent Airplane, the Naked Gun movies, any movie that will make you laugh or happy and see them right after Dancer In The Dark.

You could cut out the ending to that film and it would be sad anyways.

Oooh I totally want to watch it! I read it book, it pretty much scarred me for life (okay, not -- I'm not a very scarr-eable person, but it was pretty much "scary" to see what people are capable of...).

I'm not either, but seeing sexual abuse and degredation is rather hard for me. It gets to the point where I'd prefer watching zombies tear someone apart, as that would be a relief.

I'm hoping to move at some point this year, but yes, Salo will totally be at hand for whenever you and I can make a night of watching my odd film collection.

I really liked SAW. The only bit that made me feel bad was when the guy was left at the end.

I am going to avoid the movies mentioned like the plague. Only happy movies from now on...
