For anyone who was too lazy to watch Bobby, watch this scene. Sharon stone is just so brilliant in this scene. She plays Miriam, a 1960's hairstylist in the historic Ambassador hotel. Her husband is the manager of the hotel and she has just found out that he has been cheating on her.
She handles this scene with such restrain and dignity. I expected her to ham this up and just kind of go Jessica Lange on us and turn into this blithering mess and scream and yell but she didn't. She is calm but so hurt. (btw that was not a knock on Lange as I think she is one of the best actresses of all time and does the freakout scene better than anyone else)
We don't do this Paul, other people do this but we, we don't do this
I don't think Sharon is that good, she's often very melodramatic and she doesn't have much versatility as an actress, always playing herself. She has some good performances like Casino.
Either way she's always a pleasure to watch, she's incredibly beautiful and one of the greatest faces of cinema.

Well did you take the time to watch that clip? I think that is very versatiile from her normal style. Anyone who's seen Casino or Basic Instinct would know that this is not how she would normally play a scene.
Sharon has had some fantastic performances in her career and it's unfortunate that the bad roles get more attention than the great ones.
She is fantastic in Total Recall, Basic Instinct, Casino, The Mighty, The Muse, Last Dance, Bobby and Alpha Dog.
She really should have been nominated for Bobby and won.
thing is she is a good actress, she's just batshit insane. she's definitely better than scarlet johansen or however her name is spelled. she has exhibited real intensity before but her reputation gets the better of her. you see the woman being such a ham on the red carpet and you think wow, sharon is crazy. but she is good. but you know, right after she said the we don't do this line, i was expecting her to get a knife and just go crazy because.. well, she's crazy.
she's good, but most times i see her in a movie, it takes me out of the movie. i always feel that i can see her 'acting.' i can see the wheels turning in her head.
that clip didnt seem much different than her other performances. she always has this sullen delivery in the quieter scenes. she rarely ruins a movie, but she also rarely makes it exceptional.

exactly. I mean it's just like Kirsten Dunst, she is always "acting" and what's worse, she's always herself.
Other actresses like Judi Dench and Nicole Kidman don't act, they become their characters.

She makes Bobby exceptional. Every scene with her is fantastic, even when Lohan tries her best to fuck it up. Plus, her hair, make up and costumes in Bobby are fierce! 10 times better than the Prada costumes that got the Oscar nod.
I also think she is easily the best part about Casino.

I love me some Judi Dench but she seriously plays the exact same character in every film. It just happens to be a really good character. Her Queen Elizabeth was the same character as the one in Notes On A Scandal. Same cold butch old lady. She has no range but it doesn't matter.
