| | | Do You reckon Cher is a great performer?? ok, so I was watching The Farewell Tour on A&E, and she has all these clips from the sonny and cher show, and then her show, and her movies, and obviously the show itself and I just couldn't stop thinking that, inspite of all her tackiness, Cher is an amazing performer. In every sense of the word. She's a talented singer, she can put a good show, she's great in tv, she has lots of comedic timing and she's a very decent actress. She's like the whole package. I think she's great, and underrated.
next she's going to do In The Pink with Tim Allen(YUCK)

| | | I really respect her, if only for Mask. I think that's one of greatest performances ever. I don't care if it makes me an uber homo for liking her. Her music and other movies I'm not too big on, but Mask is amazing.
On the note of her new movie. I love that Tim Allen is the only comedic actor these days whos leading ladies arent 20 years younger than him. Kudos for him for realising how gross it is to see Harrison Ford make out with tweens. |

| | | oh and I dont think I can get any gayer than this but another great all around performer is Bette Midler. I think a lot of these women suffer from being billed as acts for gay men. It seems to be a tool used to devalue their talent.
Anyways, Bette is actually really great, shes done great comedies, drama, great tv concerts, a few brilliant albums, and is one of the greatest talk show guests ever. I had a lot of reservations about liking her because she was considered too gay but her first record is great, The Rose is great and her 80's comedies are funny, so fuck it.
Same for Cher, she has some great music, some great movies and works really hard to entertain. |

Bette Middler is also great, I remember seeing Divine Madness on tv, I think that's the name of the show, it was hilarious. I mean she sang but she was also doing stand up comedy, it was so hilarious. And she would play different characters, and she was totally vulgar, I mean it was great. Cher did that type of comedy back in the 70's. I think they are both in the same league, they both belong to this group of multi talented performes who can do basically anything, and they are not afraid of laughing at themselves and looking tacky and over the top, wich I think is cool.
My favorite Cher movie is Tea With Mussollini. I loved it. The Witches of Eastwick is like an 80's classic for me. And I love Mermaids and Moonstruck. I haven't seen Silkwood but I would love to see it, is it good? |

| | I'm not really a fan of Cher or Bette, but they are super-talented, ballsy women and I have lots of respect for them, especially for lasting in show business for so long. I like that they're both a little bawdy, too...they seem like they'd be fun to party with. |

| | | I don't have to "reckon"... I've seen her movies and seen how long she's lasted as a singer. She IS a great performer, and knows how to keep her fans intrigued.
Her first serious role was "Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean", which was on Broadway, and was also a film. I won't give away her character, but she was great.
After that, "Silkwood", which I think made people realize she is a lot more than glitz.
"Moonstruck"... still a very funny sweet movie and she is wonderful in it.
"Mermaids"... not my favorite, but she is good in it.
"The Witches of Eastwick"... I love this movie, and she is great in it. |

Ok, I was very young and I used to watch a lot of crap, but my Dad used to watch it with me, and right after Silkwood/Moonstruck etc., when people were suddenly saying 'OMG, Cher can act!' he would say that he'd known that since the Sonny & Cher Show - that they were mostly silly little skits, but she was amazing in them.

She's played like 3 million characters, and they all were different. She has real versatility. |

| | I wasn't "kind of" bitchy. I'm never "kind of" anything.
I AM BITCHY.
And the use of the word (?) "reckon" just makes me wanna puke.
It's like using "ain't" or "doncha"...
I think the word "THINK" or "CONSIDER" would have been more effective.
If that's being bitchy, well, tough shit.
I've read enough of your posts not to think a manners lesson should be coming from your direction, sweetness. |

You know, I said I was going to be nice to people around here, but there's always a rotten apple. |

| | I dont like what she does at all. Like, I dont like her music, or her movies, but she's great at it. I remember seeing this one movie I think, where someone asked her for an autograph, and she was suppose to be all bitchy and whatever, and she played it so hilariously well. She's a great comedian I think.
She makes me laugh. And I do admit to liking a few select songs of hers. |

| | | cher was good in stuck on you. i really like that she has a sense of humour. i think a lot of gay guys appreciate women like bette and cher because they are strong, larger than life women that go over the top in everything they do. they have overcome being a women in the industry and have become successful on their own terms. bette is a great actress, but i cant handle her music. i like cher's older stuff.
same with dolly parton. looking the way she looks, people dont expect her to have any talent or personality. she does though, and a great personality. she seems quite down to earth actually. why wouldnt gay people love women that defy expectations? |

I loved her performance at the oscars. I was dying to see Stuck on You just for the sake of seeing Cher but I couldn't be bothered, I hate those type of movies. She looks very funny in the trailers, I'm sure she was good in it. |

| | | Ooooh girl dont get me started on my love for Dolly! haha.
She's great, especially since despite her christian fanbase has acepted her gay fans and really appreciates them. She has so many cute anecdotes about drag queens that dress like her. I love the one she told on CMT's Crossroads about how she changes the words to Jolene to "...and I can not compete with you drag queens!"
I just bought the special edition of 9 to 5. |
