Tarantino and Rodriguez want you to know what their favorite film posters are.

Quentin Tarantino picks: Coffy (1973)
"Not only is it a great image of [Pam Grier], it's got great type — it's the epitome of a great exploitation poster... and every version of it in foreign countries rocked," says Tarantino, who, more than two decades after Coffy, directed Grier in his own Jackie Brown.

Robert Rodriguez picks: The Road Warrior (1981)
Otherwise known, of course, as Mad Max 2, the action flick starring then-up-and-coming Aussie Mel Gibson.

Tarantino picks: Where Eagles Dare (1968)
"I love the great drawn action posters," says Tarantino about the one-sheet for this WWII flick, starring Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood.

Rodriguez picks: Scanners (1981)
David Cronenberg's sci-fi/horror flick about a ruthless group of powerful, mind-controlling psychics hell-bent on world domination.

Tarantino picks: Dark of the Sun (1968)
Also known as The Mercenaries, this one stars Rod Taylor and Jim Brown as — you guessed it — mercenaries, who travel across the Congo in search of a fortune in diamonds.

Definitely not surprised at Coffy. I'm interested in seeing this Scanners thing now.

BTW, I am seriously considering going to see Grindhouse.

Rodriguez picks: Escape From New York (1981)
It's the dystopian cult classic that introduced the world to antihero Snake Plissken (originally played by Kurt Russell, a star of Grindhouse); will the poster for the planned remake (to star 300's Gerard Butler) be as cool?

Tarantino picks: Thriller (a.k.a. They Call Her One Eye)( 1974)
In 2003, Tarantino told EW this Swedish revenge flick provided the primary inspiration for his Kill Bill, and was directly referenced in Daryl Hannah's one-eyed assassin. "They actually have XXX scenes in the movie," said the director, who gave it to Hannah to watch. "And Daryl said, 'Quentin! You gave me porno to watch as homework!' I was like, 'They're only certain scenes. And they weren't sex scenes. They were just degrading.'"

Rodriguez picks: Dawn of the Dead (1978)
No surprise that Rodriguez — the director of Grindhouse's zombie half, called Planet Terror — finds inspiration in George A. Romero's classic zombie movies; this poster touts the series' second flick, considered by many to be its best.

Tarantino's pick: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)
Simply "a classic," Tarantino says of Jack Davis' poster, which features all the characters from the madcap ensemble comedy.

Rodriguez picks: The Evil Dead (1981)
Sam Raimi's fantastically gory cult horror film, starring Bruce Campbell.

source.

I LOVE Scanners. If anything, you learn that it is not wise to fuck with Michael Ironside. And I exploding heads.

I've been a tad on the fence with Grindhouse, but I will see it anyhow, particularly for Rodriguez's half, Terror Planet.

they probably do but they are closeted. It's "uncool" to dislike Rodriguez and Tarantino and people are afraid of being uncool.

I'm not afraid of yelling out that the Emperor(s) has no clothes, if that makes me uncool, ok then.

He is fucking cool like The Fonze. I don't care if they put up displays of him fucking Muppets in front of Disneyworld tomorrow (which would be awesome, regardless of me trying to make it sound horrible), he will always have a place in my heart.

You'll have to deal with the fact that some people genuinely like QT. I don't know much about this Rodriguez guy -- scratch that, anything -- but he sounds like he would tug my boat too. You have to pull your head out of your ass sometimes and realize some people aren't as sheltered in denial as you are.

You don't sound happy or satisfied so why should I take your opinion or viewpoint? It sounds more like you're the one forcing your weird artsy fartsy views on people, not the other way around.

It's like that scene in American History X (which you will totally say you hate) where the principal is talking to Edward Norton's character about his way of life and he says, "Has anything you've done made your life better?" That's all I can think of you. But I wish you better things.

Why are you so bitter all the time? You're not very bright, you're not even an Arthouse patron. You're not high class, you're not pretentious, you're not even bourgeois. You're just a sad, miserable person. Your issue is that you care too damn much about what everyone thinks about you. The rest of us don't give a flying fuck, though we do find it endlessly entertaining to get you riled up and watch you throw your tantrums and piss your pants. If only life were an exploitation film, then Sybil Danning would enter stage right and shank you in the kidneys for the grand finale.

So why don't you chill the fuck out, you shrieking, shit flinging monkey? Go post threads about what you like instead of giving yourself an aneurysm. You'll feel better and you'll live longer.

Moving on...

Oh, and I fell in love with this poster, just as much as I love the film:

And you can even buy '70s porn posters from moviegoods.com, which highly amuses me:

well like Angelina said on Girl, Interrupted. "I'm crazy, WE KNOW THAT".

Yes, I'm miserable and bitter and in need of cock, what does that have to do with anything???

People genuinely like and love Britney Spears, is she a genius?? no.

I never saw American History X(nor do I plan to) but I remember these two guys in university talking about their favorite scene being the one when this guy has his face against the sidewalk and they kick his head and kill him or something.

These guys ADORE Tarantino, they download videos on the net of animals being skinned alive and guys having their penises amputated or being beheaded by terrorists, they'd rather DIE A HORRIBLE DEATH than sit through a movie like Girl With A Pearl Earring, they love to fight, they are homophobic, they LOVE SAW, AND HORROR MOVIES and the Texas Chainsaw MASSACRE and they are fanatical about it in the same way they are fanatical about Tarantino and Rodriguez. They love video games, I mean c'mon.

I think they naturally gravitate to violence in the same way I naturally gravitate to gorgeous dramatic movies like the hours or notes on a scandal or thrillers like in the cut. The difference between us is that I consider being drawn so strongly to violence to be sick.

If you are like those guys I know, well I think lowly of you, like I do of them.

It makes me feel guilty because I'm not superior but I can't help thinking low of them.

Look, we're not like that. At least for myself, personally, I have made it clear that I love various film genres. And you're right, Britney Spears is no genius, and many horror fans ruin it for the rest of us. My boyfriend and I went to a film marathon and a good deal of the audience would not shut up. It bothered me severely, especially what some of them said about the female characters.
My boyfriend jokingly said to me (though somewhat seriously) "Horror fans and sexual offenders are very similar." I started ranting so hard about those types of guys you described that my head began to hurt and he had to calm me down (don't even get me started on how lesbians are treated in cinema as opposed to gay men).
But those are just a portion of horror/exploitation fans. Don't paint us all with the same broad brush. My boyfriend likes some of those films (and Tarantino) and he's Mr. Intellectual Logical Scientist who teaches english to foreign students (and soon we'll be moving as he's going into law). Another big difference is that we're open to many other films. For years, Raise the Red Lantern was my favorite film, though now it's been upstaged by Privilege.

I know how you feel and I've known guys like the ones you described. I don't like them as much as you do. And I've been guilty myself of feeling superior to them.

So let's all just take a step back and a take a deep breath.
And dammit, I can't wait for my Steve Mcqueen films to come in. I need to get my hands on something long and epic and starring Yul Brynner too.

ok so you are saying you are the exception???

Tarantino and Rodriguez and all this gore movement will always suck to me, if at least because of the sheer rotten nature of their fan base.

I feel so stupid for loving Kill Bill so much. I remember arguing with this friend of mine who is a talented photographer and actress, about how great kill bill is, but now I realize she was right, it's just a shit movie.

Well then at least try harder to fix it. BTW, I'd bet a thousand dollars you're not crazy. Mentally ill, fine, but not crazy, so don't use that quote.

It has everything to do with how you think.

That's not what I was getting at. I was getting at the point that you said everyone was liking him because it's cool to. Some of us genuinely love QT's work.

Okay, what does any of this have to do with what I was saying? Stop going off on tangents of more things to bitch about. You don't like their lifestyle, no fucking newsflash, no one cares because everyone already knows it by heart.

Well then judgement is in your head, this still has little to nothing to do with what I was talking about even if you can relate it.

I don't think I could care at this point without the aid of drugs. Hard, mind-altering drugs.

Then you you should drill that you're not superior into your head so you don't even care about their weird voyeuristic tendencies anymore. It would be better that way.

I say this in all undramatic seriousness, you have some shit to sort out and I hope you sort it out and stop being so close-minded and clean. A person should experience being dirty once in a while. There's no huge harm in the simple act of watching a gory movie.
