potential classics from this decade?

i've been so busy fucking swine that this decade has basically passed me by in terms of movies.
i want to catch up. recommend me the stuff people might still be watching thirty years from now.

i made a list, but this basically consists of oscar winners and nominees. anything you could add to this list would be appreciated:

Traffic: fuck it. i don't want to see this.
Moulin Rouge: i boycotted this when it came out because "courtney was robbed". i wish i could go back and kick the shit out of myself, destroy all my hole bootlegs, stickers, posters and make myself cry.
Gosford Park: even though i'm such a butch guy, i still like cunny shit like this. is it as good as i've heard?
Gangs of New York: seen it. i love this. this is daniel day lewis' movie, although leo gets the final and brilliant voiceover. i cried at the end. i'll take this over taxi driver although i'm wrong.
The Hours: seen it. was impressed.
Lost in Translation: seen it. i really like this. is bill murray method?
Mystic River
The Departed
The Aviator: is this as good as gangs of new york?
Sideways
Capote: seen it. didn't really care for it. good acting though.
Good Night, and Good Luck
Munich
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Finding Neverland
The Motorcycle Diaries
Shaun of the Dead
Crash
The Constant Gardener

Gosford Park really is a great movie!
The others I can see all could be 'classics' and stand the test of time.

You forgot Lord of the Rings
I think King Kong could be included too. Along wit Momento and The Virgin Suicides.

you should watch Traffic, it was actually very good.

Mystic River is a great movie, but if you're mildly interested read the book - that's insanely good.

first of all, what is a classic??

Memento, even though is an amazing movie, is hardly a classic. A classic is something that is engraved in pop culture, not a masterpiece that true film lovers will love.

The only true classic movie of that list is Moulin Rouge.

I think The Hours and Lost In Translation are two of the best movies ever made, but they don't have icon or classic status. They are way too sublime for the masses.

Unfortunately King Kong and LOTR are classics, it's a shame because they are terrible movies.
