or are you one of those disgusting snobs that needs to have everything handed to them in french | Yes I have and I enjoyed it, as I enjoyed the first one immensely as well. The thing is, it's not as good as the first one and even the first one isn't one of the best 250 movies of all time. IMDB is nothing but genre fan boy pickings. That was my point. BSM is a very genre movie and thus it's high ranking there makes sense.
The film community does not take IMDB ratings very serious at all because of the web sites demographic. They are the same one's that rush out to see Rush Hour 15.
and Ebert is spot on? lol. I love Ebert but he is one of the more hit and miss critics out there.
I don't have a bias against this movie because it's not arty. My problem with it is that its all style and no substance. It's just gimmicky characters and settings and music that was chosen to make the movie seem 'cool' and 'intellectual' whereas the movie is just misogynistic and like the directors other movie, very racist and vilifying of white women. |

No matter how many times you see her naked it's just so hard to think, "wow, Christina Ricci is naked." It's more like, "Jesus, what the hell are you doing? Put it away that's gross." |

dont give me second wave feminist tripe. thats so dead and gone. think outside of the dworkonian box, please. thanks
black snake moan, did you even get what that meant? do you know? black snake moan is the deepest part of your pain. its the most horrifying thing in your soul in your body, its about reaching that place and owning it and overcoming its death throttle on you.

| | From the first time I saw the trailer, I was interested. I never got to see it in the theatre, but no matter. I bought it without watching it, and I ended up loving it! Have to agree with Ebert, both Jackson and Ricci disappear in their roles. Even Justin, who never did a thing for me with his other day job, gave a solid effort. Im not sure if he's capable of carrying his own movie yet, but he could possibly get there someday. From the opening scene, I was interested (gee, I wonder why? ) Seeing more of Christina Ricci was a bonus! |

i felt the same way.
i thought the movie was pretty lame and silly (she's got "the sickness", or "the disease", or whatever they called her whoriness i can't remember...), and i had heard it was good beforehand...different srokes for different folks i guess. |

I thought it kicked major Ass!! Definitely the best of the franchise, not excluding the original, which was awesome too. Im pretty confident there wont be anymore after this, so obviously it went out with a bang! If you're looking to have a great time at the movies, this is the one to see! Definitely one of the best movies of this summer, and of the year, so far. I really can't say enough good things about it! Who cares what the critics say....theyre wrong most of the time anyway. Oh ya.....I also enjoyed Black Snake Moan! Now this isn't totally off-topic. |

How was it misogynistic? I usually have a very hard time enjoying anything that even slightly smacks of misogyny, and I liked this movie...
Besides, if I remember correctly, you were in a different thread recommending a series of porn movies about "guys who had to let other men fuck their wives in order to settle debt", and now you're complaining about "misogyny" in black snake moan? As if you care, lol. |

I love porn, but I hate pornish movies like this that try and pass themselves off as art. |

| | | thumbs up "The exploitation iconography isn't the only intentionally misleading aspect to Black Snake Moan. Not only is Lazarus not chaining Rae to his radiator for sex, as the marketing teases. He's also not about to "heal" her, as he initially believes.
Despite its surfaces, Black Snake Moan is suffused with tenderness. Its finest moment is the juxtaposition of a sweetly sung hymn and a desperate confrontation. It is book-ended by trembling embraces. The first is all bare skin and sunlight. In a movie where most sexual activity is destructive, Brewer opens with as healthy and righteous and erotic a sex scene as you'll see on the big screen this year. The last is even more intimate and suggests there is no "healed" in this movie's universe. Pain and temptation and need are ever-present, but people can cling to each other to get through."

I have to agree with Herrington's assessment... This is one of the best films I have seen in, maybe the better part of a year. |
