| | | i did like the story of the palestinian who was asked by banksy what he thought of the painting on that israeli dividing wall thingy (the one of the hole in it with the sky beyond). he replied "you've made it beautiful". after a pause to register banksy's satisfaction he said "we don't want it beautiful, we want it ugly, as it is"
i agree with lexy but i'd add gimmicky, tricksy, novelty stuff. just a new take on the amusing or surprising one gag art print/poster for the student bedroom |

I could see the mockery in a couple of these things, and I know that the establishment deserves to be mocked but I'm not really sure how a rat spilling a can of paint does that. Really most of this is just good grafitti which I'm all for, but we have artists around here (and I'm sure in every major city in the world) who do stuff like this, it's not unique. But lol @ his hypocrisy, doesn't it always end that way?
The elephant thing though- I don't think I've ever seen anything like that. I'm assuming it's a live one because otherwise I have seen something like that. We had lots of painted (plastic) cows in the downtown area for a while, I can't remember why or who did it. |

I think I met him last year - well, I'm 99% sure, as much as it's possible to be... and in which case for the record, he's very normal looking, and only slightly chubby.
Love his work, I still get a frisson whenever I hear about something new of his. Though I'm a bit wary of public opinion of him turning eventually, especially as his rise in popularity has been so astronomical these last few years. |

(both of these sold for about 50k each)
and the fact that he used to sneak his artwork into galleries. but now hes firmly integrated into what he was supposedly speaking out against by having his own high profile shows.
also i saw that whole paris hilton thing as pathetic and immature, and ultimately all it achieved is giving paris hilton (and more importantly, banksy) more publicity. pretty rich for someone whos rallying against modern celebrity obsessed culture. and he makes a point of putting a nice "BANKSY" tag next to all his recent grafitti, to fit in with what is effectively now a "banksy" brand.
