| | | Crispin Glover /Lettermen incident/ Rubin and Ed What Is It?
A Film by Crispin Hellion Glover. Currently being show by Crispin Glover, in random place nowhere near me. Stars a cast of mostly Down Syndrome indivdiuals but is not itself about Down Syndrome. Crispin Glover, and Fairuza Balk appear in this film. There's more information around the site, on the Willard commentary, and in certain interviews. There also happens to be a short description on the movie poster, which is linked below. If the idea of a naked, nazi Shirly Temple makes you uneasy I'd would advise against viewing the poster. If you have seen this presentation and would be so kind as to review it for this site, that would be lovely. http://www.crispinglover.com/SlideShow.html |

My brother e-mailed him and he never heard back about it. But that's okay, as we still adore the man. And now I'm reminded of the interview with Crispin in a 1987 People magazine featuring photos of him in a pinstripe suit stretched out on his ob/gyn exam table.
On an unrelated note, I found the original Freaky Friday, Where the Wild Things Are, Cannonball, and Shirley Temple (among various others of interest) original film reels in the storage basement at my job today.
I want all of them. |

| | | Random places. I got to see a special preview of 'Hoot' because of NWF, but apparently, no pull when it comes to Mr. Glover. What must I do to please that man? Sheesh.
If you find the film reels for "Candleshoe", pass them my way, would ya? |

| | | This is part of her email:
However, this morning I find myself waffling
between extreme disappointment and melancholy
emotions. If you can find a way to see this
presentation, I highly recommend it. ( Text about people who are easily offended)
I found that I was disappointed in him. I understood
his ideas and his mission, but I was sad that he could
only refer to imagery that is so very tired and
overworked. There is also a stock of taboo iconography
that is taboo for a really good reason, and to layer
those taboo images is both imaginative and
provocative, but his distribution was uneven which
simply resulted in distasteful.
At the end of the film, which is the portion I found
most disappointing, I wanted to leap out of my chair,
run down the aisle, vault onto his chest, pound his
head repeatedly into the stage, and then invite him to
tea.
I am glad that I went, but I am, none-the-less,
extremely sad and disappointed. I wish that I could
sit and discuss this with him. I found his Q&A session
to be a delight. |

| | | I saw What is it? I started a whole entire thread about it + my review in tha pre-hacked KR. Anyway, clearly he's out to push buttons, and why not, he grew up in Hollywood/censorshipland so why the fuck shouldn't he make such a film which tries to break every taboo he can conceive of. It was interesting seeing it (& him) outside of the US because the emotional reactions to the film by viewers were kept to a minimum and he was able to really discuss it |

| | | I have yet to see it but have been reading or seeing snippets since he was first beginning work. I have to reserve a full comment obviously -- but I am sure he was influenced heavily by " Even Dwarves Started Small." |

| | | The protagonists all have down syndrome, they make out, and worship & torture snails with razors and salt. Then in a dream sequence, Glover appears as a demigod surrounded by down syndrome concubines who try to hit on him as well as naked porn stars with monkey heads crawl out of the ground. There's another character who is about 60 years old and has severe cerebral palsy and appears naked in a fetal position inside a large sea shell, then the cerebral palsy guy is on a throne and then he falls off very unceremoniously. ouch! There's downsyndrome people who throw rocks and hit with sticks a non-downsyndrome character who wears Al Jolson-like black face makeup. Shirley Temple is featured wearing a nazi uniform and getting fucked by a gun.
It doesn't necessarily exploit the actors with disabilities but it definitely puts on film characters that were not used to seeing. Hollywood is all about hot sexy people, not short ugly metally disabled people. Glover fights against taboos by filming and promoting this. In a political and cultural milieu in the States which tends to gloss over ugliness and use entertainment as distraction to really terrible things going on in the world, I like Glover's effort. |

Actor shows off another side with 'Slide Show'
By Joan E. Vadeboncoeur
Entertainment columnist
"Back to the Future" catapulted an unknown actor into public recognition in his role as George McFly, the father-to-be of Michael J. Fox's character. The two "Charlie's Angels" movies in which Crispin Glover played the silent Thin Man reminded moviegoers why they were attracted to him. Then, there was the remake of "Willard" with Glover in the title role and hundreds of rats crawling over him.
However, Crispin Glover comes to Syracuse this weekend in a capacity that only partially reveals his acting talents. He tops a program for the B-Movie Film Festival that begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Palace Theatre.
Glover will treat the audience to his "Big Slide Show," which reveals his talents as actor, writer, illustrator, filmmaker. As the slides appear, he will narrate the drama on-screen. http://www.syracuse.com/entertainmen...370.xml&coll=1 |
