| | | the aristocrats I don't get the joke. I mean it's not really even funny like, I didn't even crack a smile. So comedians have the opportunity to be as gross as they can possibly conceive and the punchline is not even humorous. So they are not really aristocrats. Is it supposed to be ironic? Please explain. |

| | | i don't think it's supposed to be ironic, just a contest to see who can be the most disgusting. the bob saget bit was just strange. |

| | | I actually thought the movie was pretty good. It happens to be a pretty dumb joke that allows for/encourages the teller to get gross but I thought it was an interesting and often funny movie. It really allows the various comedians to show off their styles. There were several that I didn't care for, but I loved sarah silverman's bit and Drew Carey's as well. (Mostly because he was telling it to a baby.) I guess you either have that sense of humor or you don't. I'm very picky about stuff like this- I like some of it but not all of it. There seems to be no rhyme or reason with me. :shrugs:
btw, there was another thread about this if you want more opinions. I'm almost positive it was on the post hack board.

| | | herekitty, i could have sworn there was also, but i did a search and it didn't come up.
sarah's bit was the best part. i forgot if the movie actually has the subject of her joking going, "i never met sarah silverman" after her scene or if that was just on "jesus is magic" |

| | | They talked about the punchline not being important in the movie. Did you miss that?
I thought this movie was great. Bob Saget's version surprised me... |

| | | the best part of the movie was the girl explaining how bob saget got her a box of extra slim tampons for christmas and said she should leave them out in view of people so that guys will think she's tight. other than that the movie and more importantly, the joke, is horrific. |

| | | I get it, but i don't find it very humorous.
I think it's one of those love or hate-films all the clever people kind of have to like(and do like), and the less clever people hate. I always think those films are okay. |

Punchlines that just don't even really make sense or are so absurd that it's funny. Or punchlines that are completely obvious. (e.g. I'd say "ask me if I'm a tree", you'd say "are you a tree", I'd say "no". It probably wouldn't make the person I'm telling it to laugh but it makes me laugh every time. )

| | | the punchline is a non-sequitur
the lead-ups are not revolting but boring. I am so desensitized to apparent grossness that incest, bestiality, scatology, sex - is like saying nothing. Empty air. As Perry said in the 80's nothing's shocking. And this wasn't. |

There were some people in there I liked and some I didn't and the things they were describing were not that different. People just have different senses of humor. Gross or not doesn't necessarily have anything to do with it, though I have no doubt there are many people who don't care for that kind of humor. I'm neutral, it really was about the comedian's style for me.

sorry, i just didn't find it very interesting or clever. i'd rather watch aristocats over and over again for a week than spend another minute of my life watching that crud. |
