| | | King To Change His Mind?!? Stephen King had always said he'd NEVER have The Dark Tower series made into a movie or TV show....and now he may have changed his mind!
I was always glad he wouldn't do it, he said he didn't want to take away from anyones idea of what the characters look like, and I always appreciated that.
But now it seems he may have caved? Stephen King is in talks with "Lost" executive producer J.J. Abrams about a live-action adaptation of his novel series "Dark Tower."
According to HollywoodReporter.com, there is no word on whether the project will reach the big or small screen.
The story - which is a mixture of fantasy, horror, sci-fi and western genres - spans seven books. This could mean the project is best suited for television, but its potential cost may warrant the cinematic treatment.
Apparently many companies have been after the rights to "Dark Tower," but nothing has materialized because King is looking for strong filmmaker involvement. Source
This would seriously disappoint me, it can't possibly be as good as the books, and the characters will never look like what I think they look like.
I know it's like that with all books, but this is an epic story, it's seven books and took him 30 years to write.
It's taken me about 9 years to read (including waiting on the next books) and I would be very sad to see it in a TV series.
This would suck.
PS
Is this in the right forum?!? |

| | NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Stephen King writes awesome books but time and time again it's proven that the books CAN'T be made in to good movies (except MAYBE the Shining). The Talisman is also being made in to a movie, which actually makes me sick to my stomach.
If I hear Lisey's Story is being in to a movie, I think my head will turn round and i'll projectile vomit, Linda Blair style. |

| | | I think The Green Mile was great, but I hadn't read the book when I saw the movie.
I think that makes all the difference.
The Shawshank Redemption was really good too, but again, I hadn't read the story.
Still great they made a 2,5 hour movie from a short story.
How was the Desperation series?
Has it aired yet?
Wonder how that came out..... |

| | Yeah, Desperation aired last year in America but I was too terrified to watch it. Desperation is my favourite book after The Stand and the DT series, I couldn't bare to see it ripped to shreds on TV
Ron Pearlman as Collie Entragian? Eek, i just don't know. |

| | | Oh, The Stand!
Now there's a bad SK movie!
I think they started filming his stories too early, the special effects suck.
Like It, the spider in the end was cuddly compared to what they can do with CGI now.
They should do remakes!
Especially the Stand, it's my favorite book, tied with the Dark Tower series. (hated the end of DT!)
And I may download Desperation, I'm very curious. |

| | | I was so annoyed that Jack Sawyer wasn't in the end of the DT series. It was totally set up in Black House that he could be, Roland and co were even mentioned, and then NOTHING. I just hope King and Straub get started on the 3rd book.
When is the DT comic coming out? |

| | No, please, God, no! These books CANNOT be made in good movies, they're way too fucked up and dependent on the mind to fill in the blanks.
This is horrible, I think I may cry...
BTW, I thought the ending to the DT series was perfect. Made me look back on the entire series in awe, near-complete awe. |

| | the book/movie adaptions of his work are hit and miss but anything that might scream "big budget" because of visual effects will definitely flop for sure |

When is the DT comic coming out? | Yeah, since you recommended Talisman and Black House (thank you!) and I read and loved them, I wondered about that too.
He seemed like such an important character, and he was meant to be in them I think.
As a young boy he could have been the perfect friend for Jake, teach him to go to the "real world" like Jack did.
So I wonder why he didn't put him in it?
And are you sure there'll be a 3rd?
The ending seemed very definitive.
And the first part of comic is out already. |

I felt a bit cheated, because everything in the books was now kind of "worthless" since it will all happen differently.
I like it when books have definitive endings, set in stone.
In a book I love using my imagination, but the ending needs to be solid, especially when something is as epic as the DT series.
I cried when Eddie, Jake and especially Oy died btw. (Jake did die right? I forgot a lot, I should re-read)
Horribly sad. |

| | Jake died twice. Hahaha. I mean, aww.
I liked Odetta, the wheel chair lady with the disassociative personality disorder who was also Detta. That was probably the most interesting character to me before I read the books. See, my brother told me about the characters and some basic stuff before I read the books. That suicidal train was demented. And when Steven King appears in his own book, hahaha. That was strange laughs.
The movies will suck compared to the books. They're way too out there for visual effect.
For instance, The Beams! Ffs, they'll just make them translucent things in the sky. Dumbasses.
