charlie brooker makes me feel that im not insane, or at least not the only one, because he clearly sits at home shouting at the tv like i do.

some stuff by some people about chris morris
| I dunno, I think Chris Morris is kind of a lost cause. I mean, why the fuck do something about terrorism? I'm really hoping that's a smokescreen or something. It just seems so incredibly lame otherwise.
Charlie Brooker put David Firth on TV, thus win. |

| | | To reitterate the sentiment of this thread for my own benefit, Charlie Brooker is amazing. TvGoHome (the book version) is the funniest thing I have ever read. No lies.
Re : Chris Morris terrorism, as if it wont be fucking funny, and as if it wont piss someone off somewhere, which is all I ask of the man.
The main problem with these guys is that Nathan Barley made it difficult to appreciate their work without feeling a little bit Barley. I once read an interesting theory that Dan Ashcroft can be seen as Morris and Barley can be seen as Brooker. It's total nonsense, but that show really opened a can of worms for Morris. Or moreover, his massively opinionated fanbase. Of which I am one.

| | | very pleased to see him expressing his love of russell brand in today's guardian guide. been trying to point out brand's less than obvious greatness to friends who are all things brooker. his article just makes me like them both more

| | | To be honest, I generally find Brand's TV persona quite irritating, but I saw him do a stand up set that I found highly entertaining. I just don't know what to make of him.

| | | I've not read this weekend's Guardian.
I'm in two minds over Russel Brand. On one hand he's wasted-guy-at-a-party funny, and I think it's the sort of humour that works up close and personal and probably why he got so many gigs in the first place. He did endeer himself to me on HIGNFY, I'm pretty sure his heart is in the right place.
On the other hand, I remember Billy Connolly going on rants about the difference between people who can be funny in the pub and professional commedians. And it's so true of Russel Brand, he's probably a very nice guy to be around but he's not got the consistency of a professional stand-up commedian. He's gone too far too quickly and he's going to crash & burn doing what he'd doing pretty soon. He's basically the The Darkness of commedians.

| | | Fun fact, if you size your browser window to be 1187 pixels wide you see variations of the word 'comedian' three times on a line in a row. Also, I managed to spell it wrong every single time.

| | | the thing i like about brand is the stuff beneath the retarded fop who won't shut up. if i describe what that is i'll probably sound like a hippy. it's a bit bukowski though.

| | | What amazed me was that one of the funniest bits of that show was simply him explaining the rules of a daytime TV game show very quickly. I didn't realise just how absurd daytime TV had become. Still, it was nice to see Jasper Carrott.
