what exactly is this??

I'm boycotting this movie, I mean what is the purpose of it?? well it seems like horrible violence for the sake of horrible violence.

Well I haven't seen it obviously, and maybe I'm jumping into conclusions, but ever since Kill Bill both directors seem to be doing stuff just for shock value, I mean are they out to completely make violence acceptable?? who knows.

Rose looks sexy though.

it doesn't look good to me. people have been talking about how amazing it looks. i don't see it.

i really like the films of both directors. this movie just doesn't look appealing to me.

considering you cried at the saw poster, it doesn't seem like your type of film.

You know I used to think Quentin Tarantino was like the best director ever, and then I see his episode for C.S.I. and how he blatantly recycled Kill Bill Volume 2 and I just realized that's what he does, he just copies EVERYTHING, and it's all just rehashed.

Yes I know Madonna does that too but I like what she does better and she adds more of her own input to things.

I think Jackie Brown is a great film and so is Kill Bill the first part, but for the most part I think he just gives you violence just to shock you, with an interesting style that isn't even his, so what's really interesting about it??

I think they are making a disservice by showing so much violence. It's just like horror movies, we've seen it all, it's not even scary anymore.

I've never seen a Lohan movie in my life. And I don't think it's healthy for society.

if you don't like violence, then don't see those kinds of films or make an intelligent thread about violence in the media.
kr doesn't need you to make a thread everytime a violent movie comes out.

from the "so good, they're bad" movies thread. if you haven't seen them, then how the fuck would you know?
omg! the trailers were so spectactular!

lol. I think that the permisiveness for violence and sex in the media does a disservice to society, it makes kids violent.

Grindhouse is a tribute to all of those sleazy, over the top, gorey '70s grindhouse/exploitation flicks that influenced Tarantino and Rodriguez.
So of course, it will be completely ridiculous and tasteless.

And I look forward to seeing it.

well if they would be making something different you could say "influenced" but Tarantino really just re.uses everything.

I know, he recylces various parts of usually overlooked and obscure cinema; and as I like more obscure films (i.e., my avatar and sig) , and being a bit of a film-buff (runs in the family, you could say), I get a kick out if it and appreciate it. Not only that, but Tarantino casts actors from those types of films (for example, Sid Haig, Pam Grier, Sonny Chiba, Chiaki Kuriyama).
And for instance, my father loves Kill Bill volumes 1 and 2 because of their references to the samurai and Italina spaghetti westerns he watched in the theaters when he was stationed in Japan, and it's something I really enjoyed seeing because he was then excited about sharing those films with me.

So whilst I'm rambling at you, the gist of it for me is that I accept Tarantino for what he is; he's a nerdy film buff and he admits all of his references and uses his films to pay tribute to them. And of course, I find it highly enjoyable to find and watch those films he's "re-using".

well I think that's great, and I really like Jackie Brown and Kill Bill Vol 1, but there are more interesting and original directors out there.

People just like the dazzle, and that's ok. But that's just what it is, fluff, and as far as fluff goes, there is more interesting work than Tarantino and Rodriguez.

Oh, I agree, there are better directors out there, though I wouldn't use the word 'fluff' for Taratino's work. I myself look past the dazzle and fireworks and get into the dialogue and characters (can't help but say I was moved by The Bride's plight in Kill Bill, and I always root for Alabama and Clarence in True Romance, which Tarantino wrote).

ughh please. What's in Tarantino's movies besides rehashed style and violence?? nothing. It's empty. It would be cool if they were original, but they are not.

I don't like scary movies but I LOVE The Exorcist because it's a movie that goes beyond the gore and the scares and asks very deep questions.

Tarantino's movies are just violence and that's it, another subject matter I don't really like. The style could be a redemming quality but we know it's all copied.

That is why I think his best movie is Jackie Brown, because it's the only one that goes past the constant stylish violence just for the shock value of it, and has some depth. And you gotta love Bridgett Fonda.
