Well, Spanish-Americans identify as hispanic most of the time.

I consider Italians, Spanish people and Greek people white...

And "hispanic" isn't a race. We call Spanish people "hispanic" because they come from the Iberian peninsula (or Hispania).

So... If Mexicans are "Hispanic", are Bresilians "Hispanic" too? They talk Portuguese in Brazil... They're from Portugal (but a big part of the population is mixed with the Natives and black people). Their "ethnicity" isn't SO different from Mexicans... They have dark skin... But they aren't "Hispanic". Are they "Latino"? They speak a latin language... If I'm a French or a Romanian, am I "Latino" too?

That's why I prefer the word "Caucasian" than "white".

People in America say hispanic because it sounds more pleasant than Mexican and for some reason there have been offense taken by some Mexicans as though the word Mexican is an offensive word used by whites, asians and blacks. I just call them Mexican because if you came from Mexico, you are mexican.

If you have white skin, guess what, you are going to be called white. Get over it.

I've known jews in America that corrected everyone that called them white but to me white, black, brown isn't your race, it's your color.

People don't know you or what is swimming in your family gene pool so what do you expect?

Until someone knows you, expect to be called white, brown, yellow, black. Unless it's extremely obvious what you are, people will label you by the color of your skin. Can you really blame them considering I know every last person on this board has called someone by the color of their skin.

If you are from Spain and you have pale skin, expect to be called white.

no one has white skin silly. even albinos and gingers are pink. so don't claim it's all about actual colour. at best (because it's at least slightly well defined) white means of european descent. but because we're all shades white is usually used as a means of division or exclusion and can change accordingly.

spainards are white as the driven snow.

all the people they owned and colonized and gave religion and government and language are not. at one time they were the fucking rulers of the earth.

so spainards are the only spanish speaking white people. non spain native spanish speakers are latinos, evolved from the mixing of native races in countries colonized by spain, with the spanish settlers. latinos = non white.

hispanic = a term that was originally used to describe those native of the country of spain. now it had evolved to somewhat ambigiously mean people who speak spanish, white and not.

argentina is full of european immigrants that came much more recently than the spanish. scottish and welsh people for instance. all speaking spanish.

and spain was conquered and colonised by arabs before it became an imperial power. lots of jews also lived there who were forced to convert to christianity and assimilate by the spanish inguisition

'white' means almost nothing, ethnically
