| | | They are my favourites too, although I do enjoy 'NOES 2: Freddy's Revenge' a lot too. As well as the comedic overt gay subtext (is that an oxymoron?) and the exploding bird, it's got a lot to offer. Freddy's makeup is probably the most grotesque and frightening in this movie and it's nice to see the substitution of a male actor/character in the heroine's role. It does work nicely as some sort of extended metaphor for a young gay man coming out and as such has a lot more depth than other films in the series.
Number 5 is by far the worst. An absolutely insipid film. Most fans abhor 6 as well but I rather like it. More Postmodern than the others, somewhat of a preface for 'New Nightmare'. The overall concept and plot was cool. It's just a shame that any punch the film might pack is muted by that shockingly bad 3D ending. Word of warning to all future filmmakers: if a technology seems novel and gimmicky at the time, it will be cheap and embarrassing a decade later.

| | Parts 1, 3, 4, and 7.
Part 4 is my absolute favorite after 1, as I greatly prefer Alice over Nancy.
I love the effects (cockroach death!), the soundtrack, and the film's visual style overall. The only drawback is Tuesday Knight, as Patricia Arquette is the only Kristen.
Here's what I just found on youtube:

| | | they all have their moments (somewhat), but the first three are the only ones that have characters that i can actually care about. from dream master on, the acting and writing is just crap, and although new nightmare is kind of return to form, the kid annoys the shit out of me, no matter which movie he's in.
i guess i like them in their chronological order. the first is classic. you really can't top nancy - but i really think the second is good, too. jesse and kim (?) are great characters.

| | | I like 1,2,3 and the New Nightmare.
I hate trying to make horror movies too comedic. I mean have a moment or two. But keep a scare element in it too. After the third, it just got waaay to much. It became more comedy than horror. |
