Howl's Moving Castle..........great, but Miyazaki has done way better | *GASP* I LOVE 2046! I thought I was the only freak who did, I recently got the prequel "In The Mood For Love", which I have yet to watch. Howl's moving castle rocks too, but Spirited Away is a zillion times better!
Anyway: Shaun Of The Dead - So british, love it House of Flying Daggers - One of my fav films, genious (*huge Ziyi fan*) V for Vendetta - V for Very boring Girl Interrupted - watched it for about the 100000th time, always good Hostel - screwed up idea, shocking more than scary |

Have you seen other films from Wong Kar Wai? | Ugh no I havent I'm going to hunt for them though after I watch In the Mood For Love, but asain cinema is so expensive in stores, but somehow I found In the Mood for Love in HMV on sale for £6.99! After months of seeing it at £20. So woo. The thing I love about 2046 is that its one of those movies that you cant stop thinking about for hours and days after, trying to work everything out |

can't think of 2 more movies right now, sorry | agree about virgin suicides. everyone raves, i must be missing something completely....
mine:
notorious - very good very satisfying and super well made classic. better than vertigo IMO.
history of violence - can appreciate david cronenbergs surrealness, but this one didnt make the kind of impression on me i thought it was supposed to.
paradise now - sleek simple and though provoking approach to the whole palestine thing. looked very cool and was touching without unnessceary overwrought drama
2046 - wong kar wai seduces very well. the movie is not as good as in the mood for love but damn if his movies arent like the best kind of midnight slow jazz....ahhh
amelie - so sweet and pretty and makes your heart smile without being cutesy and childlike. scarily related way too much to her social problems. 1000% satisfying ending! |

| | | i'm only doing new movies, i've seen a bunch of old ones lately but that doesn't count. for people wanting 2046 in the UK, HMV has a thing with in the mood for love and 2046 together for about 17.99. also happy together was on sale at 6.99 i think. the pink panther (2006):
better than i was expecting, but still completely unecessary and a poor imitation of the original. jean reno gives a great performance as always though, beyonce looks good and there are a few good scenes. it's watchable and i was entertained. but it's nothing great hostel
i wasn't impressed. the plot was silly, most of the characters unlikeable. the one likeable character is dispatched with fairly early on, and the one i liked least leads the film. it almost made some interesting points about sex and violence, and america's role in the world but it only touched the surface of any issues in order to try and look clever. i don't think there's a message in there, not enough thought was put into the film for that. there are some good scenes though. lucky number slevin
really good, although with a few silly flaws. josh hartnett, bruce willis and lucy liu give excellent performances, but surprisingly ben kingsley isn't very good at all. the first half of the film is better than the last, it loses its humour about half way. also the ending is quite predictable. but on the whole it's good.
can't remember what else i've seen.... |

| | | Last 5 films I saw....
V for Vendetta - which I really like, held my attention from start to finish, captivating, and I really wasn't expecting that.
Milwaukee, Minnesota - Wasn't a huge fan of this movie, it felt like it couldn't quite decide what sort of film it was trying to be. Good enough to wile away an evening however.
All About my mother - Spanish film, thumbs up
The Station Agent - Excellent, just like one of these teenage summer waster films, but with a group in their late 30s. All to do with people coming together, it has a very enthusiastic feel.
The Cat Returns - Utterly random, and hilarious. The best Studio ghibli film I have seen as yet. Pom Poko may win this title though, as it seems to be about shape-shifting raccoons. Get in.
I saw a trailer for 2046 and could not get head nor tail what it was about. Anyone care to shed some light? |

| | | Take the Lead: So this obviously isn't the Citizen Kane of movies, but it was fun, and that's really all you can ask. And I kept staring at one of the girls who was so gorgeous- turns out it was YAYA (runner-up to Eva) from ANTM! Anyway, I liked it fine. I got caught up in the story, and I love watching people dance.
The Philadelphia Story: I've seen this too many times to count. It's one of the best. The dialogue can't be beat, but that makes sense since it is the script to the play. The only movie to have Kate Hephurn, Cary Grant, and Jimmy Stewart alllll together. LOVE IT!
Malena: I could watch Monica Bellucci paint a wall. This was a sweet movie that, like most Italian movies it seems, is about a young boy during facist Italy. Through his eyes we see the story of Malena as she battles through the war in a new town with people who consider her nothing more than a whore. I considered her story to follow that of Italy's and that we find her as beautiful and sympathetic as the director found his country. This wasn't one of my favorite Italian movies (I kept thinking back to Il Postino for some reason), but it's definately lovely and worth a watch.
La Dolce Vita: I finally saw this movie and enjoyed it, but I didn't love it. I can see, however, why it gets the attention that it does. I love Fellini, and I love practically everyone in the cast, but I got a bit bored by the end.
Resident Evil 2: I love this movie, ok? I lovelovelove Milla/Alice. I know it's a crap movie, but it's so much fun for me!

| | | The Pianist: Loved It!
The Anchorman: Was'nt that great. Ben Stillers cameo was funny though.
The Ringer: Lame except for "when the fuck did we get ice-cream?" and glenn
My Little Pony: Had to watch it last night while babysitting. All the colours and flying ponies made me feel like I was on a bad trip.
Girl,Interrupted: Not as great as the book but I still love it! |

| | | Hostel: GREAT concept, utterly ruined by an immature director! Heat: I don't think this film is the modern classic some make it out to be, but after it gets going it is fantastic and the last 20 minutes are flawless, so emotional, Michael Mann is an amazing action director! Basic Instinct 2: It's so much fun and Sharon Stone is wonderful playing Catherine again! Obviously it's a ridiculous pile of shite, but it's just so damn entertaining! Batman & Robin: watched it because it was on TV, and yes, it's every bit as bad as I remember. However Chris O'Donnel looks great in it! Happy Endings: Not as good as I expected it to be, the characters are more interesting than the actual plot so it feels over long and kind of boring, it is interesting in places though and has flashes of good performances! |
