Veronica Mars

I am not about to do this show justice, but for anybody that liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer then you should be watching Veronica Mars on the CW. It's not a new show, but considering it was coming from UPN I doubt that it made a lot of people's radars and it's really a shame. The two best portions of my summer have been discovering it and Battlestar Galactica via Netflix (and the Veronica Mars premier this week had a nice little homage to BSG: the creator is a huge fan).

I have a friend that calls Veronica Mars everything Lost wishes that it was. I think it's a bit harsh as I'm also a huge Lost fine, but the writing on the whole in VM is much tighter and far less predicated around teasing you with shit all the time. While the first two seasons took place in high school, I never really felt that it was a high school show at its heart. Much like Buffy it dealt with a girl whose circumstances made her an outsider within her school, but I never felt the show got preachy about the tragedies of high school a la everything else that used to be on the WB.

The only hesitancy in recommending the show to you now is that you'll probably have some of the best parts of season 1 and 2 spoiled for you. At least throw the first few discs of season 1 into your Netflix queue or pick them up at the video store. Most of you won't be sorry.

This is the best show on television, its brilliant. The writing and characters and mysteries are amazing. I love the whole noir aspect of it. It deserves a thread just for praise.

The Lost producers are actually huge VM fans as well. They stated this last season when the two shows were on at the same time. They talked about how they actually would give Veronica a few million of their viewers if they had it their way.

That said it unfortunately looks like VM may not be long for this world. Its always hung by a thread ratings wise, but they only gave it 13 episodes for this season originally and then only upped it to 20 episodes (the norm is 22). So its not looking good for a Season 4. The first plotline for season 3 gets tied up tomorrow night and then its on break until January.
