| | | i liked roger and dalton best. i like the more bastardy bonds.
i wasn't sure about craig until i saw munich, in which i thought he was amazing. anyway, i saw casino royale tonight and i think he was perfectly cast. i like the sinister, cold edge he has to him.
i don't find him attractive, but i'm not sure that's so important with bond anyway. the sort of women he usually ends up with are more attracted by power, status or having ulterior motives. plus i didn't find any bonds all that good looking before
vesper is a great bond girl too. normally they're so silly and one dimensional.
the first girl was fugly though. |

| | There will never be another Connery
From what I understand, the Brosnan movies kind of became a joke, he was almost unhuman, a superhero. They are taking things back to basics, or whatever. Haven't seen it yet. |

| | | Yeah, I think that Brosnan's movies, as much as I love Goldeneye and TWINE, became kind of a joke. But Craig is the perfect rugged Bond |

| | | My husband and i saw it tonight
Daniel Craig was amazing and i enjoyed the whole thing - there were some brief lulls, but overall, quite good - and i'm not usually a fan of the Bond movies (aside from the nostalgic kitschy-ness of the Sean Connery Bond films)
The chase scene in Madagascar was really cool - the man being chased was a great scene stealer |

i wasn't terribly disappointed in the fact that moneypenny and Q were absent - i think maybe they would have seemed a bit silly this early in the game? maybe they'll add them in the next film once his character is more established as a double-O? |

Daniel Craig is the perfect Bond and he does a fantastic job filling his predecessor's shoes. So, yeah you all better go see this movie. It's 100x better than Die Another Day | You're entirely right. I've loved the Bond films since I was tiny, and was, I admit, enraged by the choice of Daniel Craig as Bond. I planned to boycott this film, as I hated him so much. I believe I ranted about a blonde Bond, and how he can't be unattractive - it's detrimental to the story!
HOWEVER, I was so fucking wrong. This is right up there, one of my favourite Bond films, and he is, already, my favourite Bond. Yes, more than Connery: far better than Brosnan.
I think that the film-makers AND Daniel Craig were trying a little too hard to establish him as Bond in this film, but I can understand entirely why - given the backlash, it was perfectly reasonable for them to do so. A lot of it seemed to be justifying him as Bond, which was a little annoying (even the theme song has that kind of feel to it) but I think that this is the film to establish him, and it won't be an issue in the next one.
I didn't see Die Another Day because I'd heard such awful things about it. I hated that such a big deal was made out of Halle Berry recreating the Ursula Andress sea scene, and so many obvious and cheesy references. However, the role-reversal sea scene in Casino Royale was really nicely done - quite a nice reference, without being a pastiche or tired old rehashing.
I love that there was no Q or silly gadgets - Bond is hard and cool now, and grounded in almost-reality, which many disagree with, but I prefer it when it's not just a camp throwback to the days when the films were actually good.
Oh, and the opening titles are so stunning, they're worth the price of the ticket alone.

| | | eep.
I thought it was kinda rubbish. a bad story with no real tension.
everything else was spot on though, great bond, nicely tempered on the gadgets (i like the simple gadgets, like breathe underwater pens and watches with darts, invisible cars are completely stupid though), lots of nice clever one liners. It should have been great but the story was boring.
the next one could be amazing though if they get the write script though.

I was disappointed on one hand by the lack of dancing girls, but it was good on the other, as it's modernised.
