That was the point. Andy was the ultimate joker/performance artist so many people thought he faked his death. But he's never reappeared so it's safe to say he's dead.

Yeah shortly after his death is when talk about him not really dying started to make its way into the rumor mill.

I have to admit, for a brief time, I believed it. Andy was weird enough to do something like that.
