| | | The Next Best Thing omg what a hideous movie. This is like 9 notches up from Basquiat, and that's pretty low.
The story is so pathetich. It's unintentionally homophobic and it's filled with gay clichés, and totally uninteresting.
Benjamin Bratt is a good looking corpse as usual. Madonna sucks and the saving grace is Rupert Everrett.
I don't know what's wrong with Madonna. I don't think she's a bad actress, but she is very limited, and maybe lazy to an extent, and her ego makes her take roles that she just can't handle and hence all her failures. Plus, the fact that they are bad scripts.
I think that Madonna is good when she is playing herself, or a role that is within her limited abilities, she excels on those. Like Susan, Breathless Mahoney, Mae Mordabito, Evita. Those were all roles where she more or less played herself, and they worked perfectly.
But then she goes and makes the next best thing or swept away, roles that are wayyyy out of her league. Can you imagine those movies with someone like Julia Roberts? they would be classics.
This was a bad movie weekend for me. |

| | | It was a good premise until it got serious. I personally thought Rupert Everett and Madonna worked well together. I didn't like how they made into this serious "who's the daddy?" ordeal. They should have kept it light and fluffy. |

| | | yeah, it much sucked. i hated madonna the most about the movie. she should never act ever. and she was getting into that phase where her face and body were so toned and chiseled, scary. swept away, i kind of liked though. |

The cinematography looks kinda cheap, and Madonna's acting is everything but spectacular, but it's ok, the problem is the flow is way to fast, I mean there is no time for that relationship to develop and it doesn't feel very real. But it could've been good.
I really want to see the original Swept Away, I'm sure it's amazing. |
