Notice almost all Beverly Hills 90210 characters were similar to the dud characters on Melrose Place?
On Melrose Place, we could always ignore the Billy, Alison, Matt, Jake, Samantha, Megan storylines.
Whereas 90210 is Melrose Place if Billy, Alison, Matt and Jake were the only characters.
Valerie was introduced as some lame cross between Sydney and Amanda, but it didn't really work because all she did was feud with Kelly.
Amanda's feuds with Alison were much more entertaining ("It's not even lunchtime yet and you're already into happy hour."), but that wasn't the only song Amanda knew.
Beverly Hills 90210 also lacked a Kimberlyesque bad guy. Would-be villains (Emily Valentine) were always dealt with in a group huggy, after school special sort of way.
Kimberly firebombed Melrose Place. Emily couldn't even torch the retarded parade float.
In conclusion, **** 90210.
