Rapper Proof Slain in Detroit Nightclub
Apr 11, 9:51 AM EST
The Associated Press
DETROIT -- Proof, a member of rap group D12 and a close friend of Eminem, was shot to death early Tuesday at a nightclub along Eight Mile Road, a publicist said.
The death of Proof — whose real name is Deshaun Holton — was confirmed by Dennis Dennehy, the publicist for D12's label, Interscope Records.
"Memorial service arrangements are still being made, and his friends and family would appreciate privacy during this difficult time," Dennehy said in a statement.
Family members gathered at a home on Detroit's northwest side. The residential street in front of the two-story home was lined with vehicles.
Proof was the best man at Eminem's wedding in January and often appeared alongside the superstar rapper at concerts and public appearances. He also appeared in the film "8 Mile."
D12, which includes Eminem, has been around since the mid-1990s, when members of the rap group met at Detroit's Hip-Hop Shop, a clothing store by day and a hip-hop club by night.
Detroit police wouldn't confirm that Proof was killed, but said two people were shot in the head — one fatally — early Tuesday at a nightclub on Eight Mile.
An argument at the CCC nightclub escalated into gunshots, Detroit police spokesman James Tate said.
Wende Berry, a spokeswoman for St. John Health System, said Holton was dead on arrival at St. John Conner Creek, an outpatient treatment facility. Berry confirmed that he had a gunshot wound.
Another member of Eminem's inner circle — rapper Obie Trice — was shot while driving on a Detroit-area highway in December. |

| | If anyone's seen the movie, the Mekai Phiefer role was written/inspired by Proof. I guess he was Eminem's best friend since high school. What everyone's saying about him (Proof), it sounds like he was really friendly and cool. |

sorry, but even if you were sacarstic, I don't think it's funny...
this really sucks and it makes me so mad because it reminds me of one thing: every day there are people killed. People who had a family like proof. people who were at the wrong place at the wrong time. This kind of violence is so unneccessary and so...arrgh! I don't even know what to say. |

Police Say Dead Rapper Proof Fired First
Apr 12, 12:00 PM EST
The Associated Press
DETROIT -- Rapper Proof fired the first bullet in a Detroit nightclub shootout that ended his life, police said Wednesday.
The bullet hit Keith Bender, 35, in the head, critically injuring him early Tuesday at the C.C.C., a bar in a strip of businesses along Eight Mile, the road made famous in Eminem's movie of the same name.
Proof, whose real name is Deshaun Holton, was taken to a nearby outpatient treatment center by a private car, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives are currently trying to figure out who shot Proof, said Detroit police spokesman Sgt. Omar Feliciano. He said his office was told by homicide detectives that Proof fired the first shot at Bender.
Feliciano said no further information has been released.
Proof, 32, was a member of the rap group D12 and was the best man in Eminem's January wedding. Eminem was seldom seen in public without Proof.
Police said officers responding to 911 calls about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday found the bar empty when they arrived.
Bender also was taken to a hospital by a private car.
Police Chief Ella Bully-Cummings said Tuesday that detectives don't know what Proof was doing at the bar, which was operating outside of its licensed hours. Investigators face a unique challenge because no victims were present at the crime scene, Bully-Cummings said.
Police have said that an argument between two parties at the club escalated into gunfire. | |

Total fucking shame! Aparantly tho there will be another Proof release anyhow. And a D12 album... Quote:
Denaun Porter of the Detroit rap outfit D12, which includes Eminem, says the group will continue to make music, including a D12 album that's in the works, despite the death of their friend and bandmate Proof.
"If people think that because he's not here we're not going to keep doing what we're doing, then they're wrong," says Porter, also known as Kon Artis.
Proof was killed last month at C.C.C., an after-hours nightspot on Detroit's east side. Keith Bender Jr. also was shot at the club that night and later died. Police are continuing to investigate the shootings.
The kinks are still being worked out with the new D12 album; the group won't resume recording until group member Swift, who is in jail for a probation violation relating to a previous impaired driving incident, is released. The group expects to record again in June.
The album could include guest appearances by Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes and G-Unit.
The group will be using verses already recorded by Proof, Porter says.
"We're just taking the record to the next level," Porter says. "We had some songs recorded already. We got a song called 'Holding Our Own' that we recorded and Proof is on that song."
Another album by Proof will also be released later this year. A few months back he wrote and recorded an album in 24 hours; it will be called "Time Will Tell."

I saw D12 in Sept 2001 and it was him who carried D12. He also done alot of work for Eminem when he performed live, by finishing off Em's sentences. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
