i didn't like it at all. just because it's won awards and gotten good reviews doesn't mean everyone's going to like it. people do have different opinions.
does anyone know what was in the envelope that leo's character gave to the shrink lady? he told her not to open it unless something happened to him but they never really explained what was in it. it was almost like they forgot they put that in there. or maybe i just missed something??? |

anyway... i dont remember specifically, but i think the envelope had information about what he was doing in case he got killed. he didnt want it to be a waste... i think. |

| | | I thought it was an interesting story and well done, however there was some gratuitous violence that I could have done without. But it was a Scorsese movie after all. |

your theory about the envelope seems to be what i'm getting from everyone. i really don't feel like they explained that well enough though. |

But I just wanted to know what exactly was in that envelope that would cause Marky Mark to know to shoot Matt Damon. |

That is probably why Markie shot Matt in the end. |

1. really a plot twist? or desperate attempt to pump up the script for mass audience indulgence in a blood bath..$$$$$
2. any kind of sensitivity Scorsese had in Mean Streets, Taxi Driver , Good Fellas. gone bye bye. This movie was bascially ..A big fuck you I want my little oscarette.
3. Ewwwww..just gross. | All of the above. Absolute shit movie. |

| | | I remember this movie being shot in Boston and people being so excited about it. I drove by when they were setting up lights and stuff once but I never got to see any of the actors. |

| | | I absolutely loved this movie. It's about snitching and everybody in the film is a snitch, for good or bad. The shot of the rat at the end was very fitting! lol. Leo is fucking brillant but then I've always been on the Leo train pre, post and during Titanic era. And it annoys me when people just now say this year that he is just becoming a great actor just because he's doing really masculine bad ass gangster/tough guy roles like in the Departed and Blood Diamond and not the romantic leads anymore. I thought Leo was brilliant but then I think he's always brilliant and incapable of bad acting. He's the epitome of a natural actor IMO. And I really like Mark Wahlberg in it and was rooting for him to win the supporting actor Oscar. Other than that, Jack was Jack didn't care for Matt Damon never did and didn't care for the Vera chick-she wasn't that convincing for me and doesn't capture the camera well. They should have gotten a stronger actress. I hear Scorcese wanted Hillary Swank or Kate Winslet but then decided on a no-name actress. I like the scene where they play Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd when Leo goes to see the shrink at her house and I like any scene with Mark Wahlberg and the scene where Matt Damon and Leo are ringing each other on the cellphones and both pick up but don't know what to say and what move to make next. Pretty cool. |

| | | i am still really pissed about having spent two and half hours on this shit.
i dont understand why people ~omg <3~ this movie. is it because of the big names attached? because, thats the only reason i can come up with.
unlike others, i dont have a problem with the violence in this movie. in fact, i think it was pretty tame compared to all the complaints ive heard about it. instead, i had a problem with the plot and structure- all of that was a fucking mess (the story had some promise, though). it basically took two and a half hours to leave you with questions. serious questions. not "wonderful movie" questions, like the type that are spoken about and hypothesized on near water coolers for months afterwards, but just "...what was that scene for?" "how does x relate to y? if x is, in fact, related to y, why the fuck does it matter?" there were too many plot turns that ended up going nowhere.
i really wanted to like this movie because it details one of my favorite subjects and it has leonardo dicaprio in it (im a fan of his earlier work), but even his performance was...i dont even know what to say about it anymore, aside from that i think this is one of those movies that is truly a product of the hype machine in every respect.
