sehr gut | Yeh my friend said he was how she imagined him but i imagined a stooped over/hunchbacked kind of grotesque guy! It was a while ago since I read the book so I probably made that description up all by myself
Yeeeeh the red haired girl was really stunning!! My friend pointed out that she was Wendy in Peter Pan (the version with Jason Isaacs as Hook), I would never have noticed! |

| | | i just saw the movie and was totally disappointed. i've never read the book.
i didn't give a shit about the main character. he wasn't interestesting, and he didn't have interesting relationships with anyone. so i found there was nothing to hold my attention.
then of course there's the whole psuedo-artsy footage of dead, naked, young girls getting fat smeared on them... over and over again.
it was a misogynistic lame crime movie about a fucked up dude killing young women with no suspense or intrigue.
sucked major ass.
Is this the same book that Scentless Apprentice was about? |

| i think that was quite an important part of it. like how in the end he was still so dissatisfied even though he'd got what he'd always wanted..he couldnt form any relationship with anyone and he realised that even though he had the power that it was really worthless anyway. i dunno, maybe thats just me. and how the very first red haired girl, how that affected him so much but he could never have any attatchment to her. |

| | | I loved the film but having read the book before I think it could have been a bit more visually spectacular on a Baz Lurhman type scale to fully represent how descriptive the novel was.
There were glimpses of this at times which in turn were my favourite moments such as the scene where Dustin Hoffman inhales the scent and transcends into a dream like state with a flower garden utopia inhis head and a pretty girl whispering 'I love you' in his ear. The ending was stunning also when the crowd were completely intoxicated by the scent.
I also loved the emphasis on female beauty that provided the motivation for the killer and the subtext for the plot. The subtlety of hair, skin and poise really appealed to me as I admire these qualities too. The actress who played Laura I agree was perfectly cast to reflect this unspoilt perfection and representation of youth in bloom.
My only criticism is that perhaps it went on for too long and also the trailer depicts a completely inaccurate idea of what the film is about. I felt it suggested that it was more of a glossy slasher flick when in fact it's a bit more complex than art and definitely more stylish, you could even say art house in a way. It's not a film I could watch again and again so I wouldn't want to own it, but it was definitely enjoyable and I quite liked the enchanting musical score aswell. |

the movie was okay. everyone in the theatre laughed at the ending.. i liked alan rickman in it and.. it was overall just okay i thought. if the ending had been different it would have liked it a lotttt more.

| | | i did not read the book in highschool bc my german is shitty but i saw the movie last week and the first 75% of the film was just magical. beautifully filmed, great acting and very Dickensian :courtney:.
i thought this was the best movie i saw in some time, but the end.. i don't know, it was too unbelievable for me i mean come the fuck on. all those people watching him get hanged having a massive orgy because of some perfume? really. i wonder if saddam hussein read the book and thought about this lol |

| | | I really liked the movie, it was beautifully shot. My friends thanked me for making them go see it. I could not decide if I found Jean-Baptiste attractive or not, it bothered me. |
