| | | Who Should Have an A-List Biopic of Their Life? it seems to be something of a trend. and some have turned out really well (johnny cash, frances farmer, truman capote, howard hughes..)
and marylin and liz taylor have had tv ones, but im not counting them. the liz one was on lifetime yesterday GOD did it look horrible.
so im talking about the full-out big scale, a list director, top notch actor, big investment picture.
suggestions of who youd like to see? |

| | | uh.........pee wee herman? played by the dude who was pee wee herman? so like a 'real' biopic of a fictional character played by the same guy who played the fictional character...
i think i sound stoned so ill stop.
i really cant think of anyone else. yes, there have been good ones, but i usually am very, very wary of it. i approach with mucho caution. my heros id never want to risk desecrating if the biopic ended up a pile and a half of turd....and recreating/staging real events that meant alot to alto of ppl are somehow a huge no no to me...too risky. sure, it works sometimes, but that seems like a humungous fluke... |

| | | i think there should be a movie about agassi. in a few years though not quite yet. some other sports luminaries are just TOO larger than life, ANYTHING would seem like a parody...
but it would have to be very carefully and WELL done. there can only be so many fictional fairy tale sports movies. he's had a good story, and his personality isnt so mythical that it would upstage the sport.
same thing with ty murray. but i think maybe there arent nearly enough people who know or care who he is.
im just editing to say that i think this alleged lance armstrong biopic is a baaaaaaaad idea. waaaay too damn early. way too dramatic. way too much a part of contemporary american lore. its too known and too current. its setting itsself up for some harsh judgement. if he wasnt so controversial a personality, or it was a good ten years later, then MAYBE.

| | | about plath, i think she died when she was about 30, so yes pretty young. there is a movie about her, i think it's called just "Sylvia". Gwyneth Palthrow plays her role. I think it's an ok movie, though it could be alot better.
I would love to see a movie version of Bell Jar too.
I just watched Frances last night. I love that movie, the ending makes me so sad.

| | | judging by how the james dean biopic turned out (as much as i like james franco...... the movie was so mehhhhhhhh...) im not surprised that they arent attempting a brando. (oh but i bet its a mtter of time) just too much of an undertaking. anyone that legendary, with that long and whacked of a life... no producer wants to touch that with a ten foot pole.
plus how are you gonna get an actor good enough to play brando the man, and brando playing brandos roles?? LOL. OMG youre NOT. it would just seem like cheap imitation. no one would be satisified. what actor is actor enough to play the ultimate actor?
now, montgomery clift is a different story. still legendary but FAR lesser known than the other two, and a total cinematic tragedy of a life but breif and completely bookended. better than any writer could have thought of. this id like to see. but only with the attention it deserves.
doesnt hurt that the 'gay kid' from dawsons creek is a SPITTING FUCKING IMAGE of him (and apparently has experience playing gay characters, a bonus, i guess). i see some resemblance in will arnett from arrested development too. i just wonder if they would be able to fit it, after all clift was pretty much a total acting genius too. but i dont know, i think i like clift too much, maybe i wouldnt like the idea of a biopic....
hollywood doing hollywood has alot of potential, but also alot of potential for stinking failure.
lol, this is turning into who NOT to make a biopic of discussion thaks to me...

| | | I'd like to see a good big Holywood production of Marilyn... all the TV movies made about her have been pretty bad. They owe her that much!
The Frances film is brilliant... it makes me cry every time. I've resisted seeing "Sylvia" because i cant stand Paltrow. |

| | | marilyn needs a good one, and one that focuses on her physical illness as well. book biographies and tv movies tend to skip over that, despite it being what caused her drug addiction and thus her demise.
milena jesenska would make a very good one too. i contemplated writing it myself once. again, there is a poor tv one already
laura nyro... although that's happening soon
talking of plath, has anyone read assia weevil's diaries? they're newly published and being serialised in the times (i think, maybe the telegraph or independent. one of those types). a biopic of her and hughes could be very interesting, from what i've seen so far. i never used to buy into the whole hughes was a bastard thing, but now it really seems true |

| | | Aleister Crowley. I don't think anyone has done anything on him(besides books).
Even though I think he was an overblown pompous junkie, it would make a great movie. Magik, sex, drugs, and considering his heyday was the 1900's to the 1920's it would have killer sets and costumes.
Ok now I'm pissed because I really want to see this but it only exists in my head.Hmmmm |

When I looked it up on imdb, I found that apparently there is supposedly another one going to be made. And also that imdb users who've seen the film have the same complaint I remember from when I was young and obessed with the book and looked up the movie in a movie review book: the book isn't filmable.
In my opinion, a good or bad biopic could be made about anyone, it depends on how well the movie is done. I suppose I'd like to see one about Courtney, but making one while the subject is still alive seems tacky, unless it's an adaptation of an autobiograpy (Coal Miner's Daughter sprang suddenly to mind as I started typing that sentence). One of the problems with biopics of famous people is that they often have a by-the-numbers quality to them - it's what I remember reading about Walk The Line, and when I finally saw it (we decided to wait to rent), I agreed: Po' childhood, sucessful audition, hit record, blur of touring montage, drug addiction, obnoxious ego problem, first wife leaving, poor album sales, rehab, comeback concert, etc. Going A-list seems to exacerbate this problem (they like to stick with the known, it was probably Coal Miner's Daughter that set that standard for modern times), although if you're lucky, you get stunning performances, which did happen with Walk The Line, but the rest of the movie didn't measure up.
