| | | Fuck off I'm fat Anyone watch this last night?
Personally I thought he was just too accepting of the fact that in 5 years time 70% of us will be overweight or obsese.
Fair enough, life can be difficult for fat people, he made some good points, but I still think that if we accommodate their needs what encouragement would they have to ever lose the weight?
Its just like giving in an excepting the fact that we are a fat nation.
Instead I think we should be encouraging these people that to be 25 stone is bad for your health, that can lead to an early death, Not that Britian needs to change to accommodate them.
There were 2 seventeen year old girls who were a size 20/22 and complaining that they cannot wear fashionable clothes, instead of ranting on to the shops, I think we should be encouraging these young girls to loose weight.
He said he had been on practically every diet known to man, with no sucess.
BULLSHIT.
If you eat less calories than your body burns, YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT.
Scienific fact.
Unless of course you have something medically wrong with you, in which case seek medical help, don't think "ah well fuck it, I am fat".
I dunno, I just think to give in to something like obsesity is wrong, not being able to wear fashionable clothes, fit into cars, go to amusement parks, sit on the toilet with ease [those where all the points he came up with] might actually encourage these people to do something about their weight.
People always diet for a reason....without those reasons, what hope have we got as a nation?

| | | I do think fatty food should be taxed/cost more as a deterrent to eating it but also so we can afford to treat these fatties in our hospitals |

| | | I hate that fatty foods are usually the cheapest.
Going healthy vegetarian was one of the most expensive decisions I've made. Ass-backwards. |

Me aswell. But in the longrun you'll be happier and healthier and the money will have been well invested. I've even started growing my own vegetables and such so you can save money there. As well as I make all my own breads and cookies and such, so if you buy the ingredients in bulk, it's really not pricey at all. |

| | | I think there should be a balance. I didn't see the show you're talking about but I would rather have people be comfortable being a few pounds overweight than skinny girls (and boys) starving themselves to death or otherwise ruining their health because they think they're not thin enough. This doesn't mean I'm pro obesity (is there such a thing?) but when you start down the path of making fat people feel like shit, where do you draw the line? Do you think that line will be clear to young girls? I'm not so sure.

In the US, how is healthy food (fruits, vegetables) more expensive than meat and fast food? |

| | | Yeah, often a vegetable based meal is cheaper in the UK, too.
Of course, meat supplements are another thing, but I don't think fake mince is that expensive these days |

Although really when I think about it, they may not be more expensive than real hamburger patties; I don't know, I haven't bought real hamburger patties ever, I don't think.

but its also a matter of time, in a way. its much quicker to go through the wendys drive through and but 8 things off the $1 menu and have your dinner that way than to go and spend that $8 on fruits and veggies. |

It is so much easier to get fast food than it is to invest time in cooking and there is hardly any fast food that is healthy. Time is money, they say.

Mmhmm. I live in Europe, and basically EVERYONE I know who went to the US (be it 2 weeks or 1 year) came back with more weight. It's, of course - no personal (?)- offense, but your fast food chains are insane. All these drive ins... we don't have that (except for McDonald's, Burger King and KFC, but not in every town, and not in a central location). We have fast food and take aways, too; but mostly you have to walk to get it. And it's way more expensive than homemade food. |
