i really wish that i could say i loved cooking! i tend to burn everything in site, or ruin it or SOMETHING. i once almost set my house on fire making pierogies....and i wasnt really MAKING them, i was simply frying them!
im going to have to learn though because eating food from anywhere but my house is beginning to gross me out for some reason.

yea. i dont know, is there such a thing as "school cook books" on the us market? cooking books with step by step pictures, simple, idiotproof...?! i learned cooking with a book like that, it was really helpful. so were the cooking shows on TV (my weak spot!). failing belongs to learning, so don't worry.

Its just like giving in an excepting the fact that we are a fat nation.
Instead I think we should be encouraging these people that to be 25 stone is bad for your health, that can lead to an early death, Not that Britian needs to change to accommodate them.
There were 2 seventeen year old girls who were a size 20/22 and complaining that they cannot wear fashionable clothes, instead of ranting on to the shops, I think we should be encouraging these young girls to loose weight.

He said he had been on practically every diet known to man, with no sucess.
BULLSHIT.
If you eat less calories than your body burns, YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT.
Scienific fact.
Unless of course you have something medically wrong with you, in which case seek medical help, don't think "ah well fuck it, I am fat".

I dunno, I just think to give in to something like obsesity is wrong, not being able to wear fashionable clothes, fit into cars, go to amusement parks, sit on the toilet with ease [those where all the points he came up with] might actually encourage these people to do something about their weight.
People always diet for a reason....without those reasons, what hope have we got as a nation?

Views?
I totally agree with you. I didn't see the programme, but I think as a nation we're so keen to be seen as non-discriminatory - against any group - that we instantly go out of our way to try and accomodate said group. Don't get me wrong, I think that in nearly every case this is a good thing, of course I do. But not with clinical obesity. I'm not talking about being a bit fat, I'm talking about the kind of obesity that is a risk to the health of the individual, that puts pressure on their organs, that makes them incapable of walking even to the shops, that could eventually kill them. And I think that to instantly give into it is irresponsible, it will make the individual think that because facilities, clothes etc are being made larger to accomodate them, they have no reason to try and lose weight - when in fact their health is at risk.

However, I do also think the individuals themselves need to take some responsibility. It's the fucking twenty-first century, and unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years, you're aware of the dangers of obesity and the importance of a fairly healthy lifestyle. I'm not saying everyone should become marathon runners, I'm saying that it's impossible to not know that eating a bucket of KFC for breakfast, lunch and dinner, interspersed with cream cakes and crisps, is going to make you put on weight. Here in the UK we have a new TV series practically every week about healthy food or exercise. There are supplements in the papers all the time. There are actually adverts (ok, that's freaky, one just came on as I was typing) telling us how much salt we should eat a day. And so on. The government can only do so much. And in that way, if individuals know the risks involved and still choose to live that way, then I think they're to blame just as much as the fast food chains.

i think this is an awesome idea on so many levels

i hate taxes
but, like bookstore said, its really unrealistic and would probably never happen

zerostars is just really nice zerostars is just really nice zerostars is just really nice zerostars is just really nice
I caught a bit of this programme while my mam was watching it. I saw the part where they went to a theme park and that fat woman was testing out one of the seats for the ride to see if it would hold her body weight.
She couldn't go on the ride cos she was so fat that the saftey bar wouldn't go over her chest then it showed the fat guy complaining that these rides don't cater for obese people.
I just thought....fucking loose some weight!! I'm really sorry, but people who are ridiculously obese surely there as a point where they though Hmmm I'm getting rather large I better stop eating so much junk and do a bit of exercise. Diseases exsist that humans can't control if they get them or not, obesity isn't a disease!!
I don't know if I should feel sorry for fat people cos in a some cases its their parents fault I've seen loads of fat little kids where I live who don't care about health or appearence (obviously cos they're kids!!) and their parents just let them scoff their faces and they'll grow up struggeling to control what they eat. I dunno its crazy...sorry to get all righteous but I hate it when you see images of kids in poor countries literally starving to death then compare that to all the over-weight people walking around on street its crazy. god the world is stupid.

my friend has diabetes etc and i hate to say it but she does totally pass on her negative eating habits to her kids, including the baby which really bothers me
its almost like she still thinks in the mentality that people did a long time ago when they thought fat was good becuase it was a symbol of wealth

interesting. i have a hard time imagining that happening in the states. in fact, there are public schools that are phasing out recess.

that's the way i was raised, but it was more like, "well they're eating something." but she grew up poor. she's grown out of that since then though.

Seriously? We have shitloads of these programmes and adverts. Mind you, people are still obese, so I don't know if they're doing much good.

i completely and utterly agree with you, could'nt have put it better myself. people are so quick to point the finger at overly skinny girls, saying that being underweight is very dangerous and that the girls shouldn't complain about the lack of size 6 or size 4 clothes. and they are completely right.
just as it is not ok to say that it's alright to be 6 stone it's not write to say it's alright to be hugely overweight.
in the same way we cannot candone (sp?) anorexia we can't do it with obesity it works both ways, they are both claassified as eating disordered. imagine the uproar if it was fuck off, i'm skinny or skinny and proud.
