The Babyshambles man is stopped hours after court appearance

Pete Doherty has been arrested in east London this afternoon (April 20).

The Babyshambles singer was stopped by plain clothes police officers while travelling by car in the capital.

According to a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police: "At 14.10 this afternoon two men, one aged 27 the other 21, were arrested after a vehicle was stopped in Roman Road, E2, by plain clothes officers in an unmarked police car on routine patrol.

"They were arrested for what was believed to be class A drugs with intent to supply and both men are currently being held in a east London police station. The older man was the passenger the younger the driver."

The new arrest comes just hours after Doherty was sentenced for admitting seven charges for possession of drugs at Thames Magistrates Court.

As previously reported, Doherty was given community order with two years supervision and 18 months drug rehabilitation plus he was banned from driving for six months.

Additionally the singer is already serving a 12 month community order that dates from his appearence at Ealing Magistrates Court in February after he pleaded guilty to a different set of drug-related charges.

Singer Pete Doherty has been released on bail after his arrest on Thursday on suspicion of possessing class A drugs.
The Babyshambles singer, 27, and a 21-year-old man were detained overnight after plain clothes officers stopped a car in Roman Road, east London.

Both men have been bailed until June pending further police inquiries.

Scotland Yard said the pair were arrested on suspicion of possessing what were believed to be class A drugs with the intent to supply.

The arrest came three hours after the singer appeared in court on separate drugs charges.

He was put on a two-year supervision order and given 18 months in drug rehabilitation after pleading guilty to seven charges of drug possession.

Thames Magistrates' Court in east London also banned him from driving for six months.

If he overdoses he'll only become even more cliche' and become even more of an icon to people, which is sad. I'd rather he just faded away and people forgot about him or became fed up with him. Either that or he could at least just clean up and make some music, which people judged him on. Rather than his life antics.

Although Layne from AIC was not working for a few yrs with AIC bc of his drug use and died pretty much quietly and is remembered for his music primarily, i guess he's a Rare exception.

I'm probably one of the only people who likes Pete, but I really hope he gets better soon. It's messed up that he keeps getting 2nd and 3rd chances and he still blows them.

That is SO fucking untrue!!I've done volunteer work in the holidays for the Church of Scientology and its amazing.The people are amazing.
Working for them is great and I learnt a lot.
when I did volunteer work for them last holidays, Scientology even paid for our lunches on Christmas.
