Kill Your Idols (No Wave documentary)

I finally got to see this and while I was a bit pissed about too many interviews wasted on the newer acts, Gogol Bordello made that part worth watching. The film starts with bands like Suicide, Teenage Jesus and The Jerks, DNA, Theoretical Girls, Swans, and Foetus. Then we see Sonic Youth and that basically goes into the newer acts like YY's, a.r.e. Weapons, Liars, and Gogol Bordello.
I enjoyed this mostly for the rare footage and extras. Lydia is wicked as ever and Suicide are still amazing. The band that really irks me is a.r.e. Weapons who look like thug assholes and they sound really like Suicide...the singer even mentioned in a bitchy way how they get compared to Suicide...yeah, duh. I recently saw this band and they were running about in sweatbands and athletic-type clothing, like they were preparing to enter a boxing match. If you don't really know about Gogol Bordello, this will grab you by the neck and force you to seek them out, for they are just great.

I think the trailer is available at the link, if not it's on youtube. Our local indie record store had a free screening Monday night, but I had to work...so I rushed out yesterday to snag a copy. Emily, you'll love it. Gogol Bordello definitely stole the film!

The trailer looked pretty cool! I need to see this.
I want to see this film also, but it looks pretty hard to hunt down:

That looks great! The trailer was too short, but I just checked and youtube has lots of clips.

It has Pierre Clementi in it too. Yum.

I think that the female lead Anoushka is gorgeous. I'm just such a fan of films from that era like Smithereens, Blank Generation, Downtown 81, Liquid Sky, and more that I just cannot help myself.

We should have our own film festival. I'll bring my copy of Made in Sheffield.

punkrain will become famous soon enough
I saw this at the Wisconsin Film Festival this past March (I think it was March). I was actually kind of disappointed in it. IT was really quite short and it seemed a lot of that time was spent in the weird little transitions they had to cut between segments.

Plus the crowd I saw it with sucked. I don't think anyone besides me knew anything at all about No Wave but just went because of the YYYs. They kept laughing and mocking Lydia Lunch and I kept thinking if she were there she'd rip out there eyeballs. You don't fuck with Lydia Lunch.

Good points: I really liked the Gogol Bordello bits, too. I also like how the documentary portrayed the YYYs. I love the YYYs, but it was nice to seem taken down a peg or two.

punkrain, I agree about the length. I was hoping for a longer film, but I guess we always have the little extras *sigh*.
