| | | The Illusionist has anyone seen this yet?
I did.
I thought it was very beautifully done and the accents and acting were excellent, I am however surprised that it's getting so much hype. In my opinion, there was not alot of plot to make a film with (its based on a short story) but it's still quite good.

ending was a big shock i dont know if it's a coincidence but ed norton always shocks at the end. (primal fear, fight club, american history x etc.) he did it again!
the acting..he's my fav actor and he AGAIN didnt prove me wrong even jessica biel wasnt annoying.
overall, GO SEE IT! |

| | | whats the shocking ending at the end of american history x?
...I do not remember anything being very shocking. However, I will agree with you on the ending of the illusionist and fight club (even though EVERYONE I know who watched it can name thepoint earlier on in the film when they caught on but I somehow missed it and was in shock at the end) and 25th hour. That's interesting how he ends up in those roles.....jared leto dies or gets disfigured or badly injured in many films hes appeared in.

| | | i rented this a few weeks ago. i thought it was a bit drawn out, but i loved the ending so it made me really enjoy the movie that much more. edward norton never seems to dissapoint. which is why i picked it up and kept watching despite it being slow at times. i would recommend it |

| | i saw this recently and i generally agree with the original poster. maybe not about plot per se, but the writing in general.
the bulk of the film did not justify the end. its as if the entire hoax/twist end was thought of first (which of course it was, duh.lol) and then the rest of the film was a shabby attempt at thinking of things to cover it up.
the whole thing FELT flat, ya know? its one of those films where you dont see the end coming, but its not brilliant like fight club for example. because its not like you were drawn in throughout, THEN- BOOM! the end and you just want to immediately go back and see all the clues you missed.
here, you feel disconnected throughout. the twist end is surely an explanation for WHY things felt flat and not real, but it doesnt make up for being bored and not caring for the last two hours. its SUPPOSED to feel real in the moment. in my opinion, they should have developed the things that were going on on the surface more, a lot more, THEN integrated it into the subtle 'clues' of the actual plot. then it wouldve been brilliant.
another film in the vein of magic AND twist endings is the prestige, which on the other hand, is BRILLIANTLY written in my opinion. i mean, wow. the nolan brothers have more creativity and brains between them than perhaps any other pair of collaborators in film. amazing shit |

| | | i seen it a few weeks ago as well and found it to be rather good.i was shocked at the end as well but it made sense to me and to an extent was what needed to happen for the charachters to end up together happily without having to constantly peek over the shoulder.i am planning on renting the prestige later today along with running with scissors and the grudge 2 |

| | | I started this thread before I'd seen The Prestige...I must say, I definitely prefer the prestige to the illusionist. I'm still in shock now, a few months after I saw it, from the ending of that film....and christian bale is so fucking hot in that film I can't get over it. |

| | | Terrible movie. It was ridiculous. There was no need to throw in the bullshit plot twist at the end and it didn't work. I thought the ghost conjuring scenes were cool looking. Ed Norton is one of the ugliest men on the planet. It's difficult to look at his face. |

I guessed the ending quite early on and started paying more attention to predicting the next plot twist than to enjoying the actual story. But the performances were good.
*spoiler*
I guessed too early that Christian Bale had a double in disguise, since he had hardly any dialogue and was only seen in quick flashes and in profile. They could have done a bit more with that, it was too obvious. |
