| | | punch-drunk love is my fave pta movie, i just think it's an incredible synthesis of visual style and tone and music
also, that sillhouette scene as watson + sandler kiss to "he needs me" while all those people walk by is just insanely swoon-worthy |

| | | ok. will who are you?
and now.
i went to a new dvd rental place last night. because my fines at the other one are ridiculous and i think they will ban me if i try rent from there again. so, no.
but this new place is crap im only allowed to borrow 4 at a time. i think my fine reputation preceeds me.
anyway, moral.
i was signing up (trying to explain my multiple name issue. different name on every id form and ofcourse they want TWO with the same NAME. gotta settle for a conglomerate name) and this woman, who had alcohol on her breath and wearing a fluroescent top as though she were riding a bike (bad mix, yeah?) starts rifling through the dvd's i was waiting to rent. and then she picks up magnolia.
"oh, i LOVE this. did you hear me ask about 'short cuts' before by altman?"
"ah, yes." (glare)
"well don't you love that movie too?"
"no. i dont like altman"
"what? everyone knows that magnolia is a direct cut from short cuts".
"some think so. i dont like altman, at all".
and then i forget the rest cuz i was trying to ignore her.
ok, i havent seen short cuts, whatever, cuz i dont like altman. i always get bored. but this woman, made me want to slap 'er face.
i thought this was a bit funny because of the posts on the first page of this thread.
and i dont like curly hair. she had it.

that might be my favourite movie scene
it;s a really well crafted film, visually very appealing
does anybody think the harmonium is a symbol of his masculinity?

| | | PTA is brilliant, and i love Punch Drunk Love. Favorite scene - when he's saying bye to her at her apt, and says "Annd... bye bye". and closes the door and walks down the hall saying "annnd bye bye. annnd bye by, you stupid fucking idiot. annnd bye bye". I love when a director can get the truth of something on film. Like, haven't we all had those moments? Whether you admit it or not, you've had a moment like that. And you're either the kind of person who shrugs it off, or the kind of person who walks down the hall saying "annnd byebye, you stupid fucking idiot".
love Magnolia and Boogie Nights so so much. I can't wait for his next film. |
