is anyone here a vet?

took my cat to the vet last week for a tooth cleaning. turns out he has a heart palpitation, on a scale from 1-6, he is a 4.

basically they cant fix his gingivitis until they can be sure about his heart condition, because he could die from the anesthesia and whatnot.

this is the first time a vet has said he has heart problems.
should i get a second opinion?

is there any possibility that the fact that i gave him .25 mg of xanax before the vet visit for his nerves have anything to do with a possible irregular heartbeat?
cats can take xanax btw, he had it prescribed before so dont start yelling animal abuse at me.

I don't know but I bet he was feeling GREAT for that appt. I think that's how much Xanax I take and I've probably got 140 lbs on the cat

How old? I'd get an unimpaired evaluation

if anything xanax would regulate the heart rhythm.

you should tell any vet you see that your kitty is on something, though.

it sounds as if they are being cautious. i dont know if he is in sinus arrhythmia or actual afib or if there was a sinus pause, but these are all very different and no one can tell unless the cat gets an ekg what it actually is (and do they do ekg's for cats? i would assume so. i know they do at large anumal vets) did they hear a murmur? bc that would be worse, IMHO.

age of cat?

yes babyboy monkey is still alive and seemingly weLL? happy at least

he is 8 human years, 40something in cats.

i should have brought up the xanax, but i forgot to. i onlt give it to him when i have to transport him someplace because he gets incredibly anxious. vet says he needs blood work, a sonogram(?) and xrays. its really ****ing expensive and im willing to pay but i think ill get a second opinion. not to disrespect your field or anything, i dont really trust vets doctors or mechanics, because some feed off the ignorant.

once, a vet wanted me to put him down ON SIGHT a few years ago because he misdiagnosed him with seizures, when he was in fact going through vertigo.

thanks for the suggestions u guyz
