Rupert is a mini schnauzer/toy poodle mix i rescued.
My dog eats its own shit, and any other shit it can find. I want to try this for-bid product that you put on their food and supposedly makes their shit not taste as delicious.

My dog acquired tapeworms from all the shiteating. So i tried muzzeling him when he goes out in the yard, but he can still eat shit with the muzzle on i've discovered. I pick up all the poo religiously, but there is some poo frozen in ice that i just can't get up, but that he still licks.


It's impossible to treat his tapeworms if he keeps reinfecting himself by eating his shit.

I feed him high quality food (iams proactive health). so i don't think it's that hes lacking nutrients.

does anyone else's dog do this?

Your dog probably has pica. Which basically means that your dog likes to eat nonfood items which can include feces. You should take him to the vet and see what he or she suggests. Your dog could have something wrong with him internally that is making him do this.

i think yr dog just likes eating shite, like a lot of dogs do.

(i used to work in a vets, and people would come in using hushed tones to say "there's something else... sometimes he... he..." and it would always be he ate his jobbies. NO BIG DEAL.)

put yr dog on a leash when you take him out, so he doesn't get to eat it at all
it's also recommended that you put a wee bit of pineapple in with dog food, because that makes it v. unappealing
but i say mainly the leash bit

yeah I have been taking him out on a leash and watching him, sometimes even when i look away a second he has some poo in his mouth.

I wouldn't think it's that big of a deal either, its just that he keeps getting tapeworms.

I guess i'll have to give him tapeworm meds once amonth and try to watch him as best as i can. He is a very nice and loyal dog, but he keeps getting sick from sneakily eating poo.
