Fleas. Yuck.

if this is the wrong forum, feel free to move it!

so somehow, we seem to have a bit of a flea infestation in our house. we don't have any pets, so i guess it's come from someone else's pet or whatever, but i need some help!

i have about 20 or so bites and have cleaned my room and the hall twice with a variety of products, but i still had two or three new bites today. the boy also got a few and is now furious incase he's taken some back to his house.

so far i've used some bob martin stuff and some acclaim stuff, carpet powder and sprays on the carpets and furnishings, but i'm unsure how to clean the bed, and frankly there's no point cleaning the floors if they're in my bed!

does anyone have any recommendations? i read about a flea bomb but i haven't seen one anywhere - do you get them in petshops?

any help would be so appreciated!

You need to wash all your bedding..blankets...every single thing. They cling to fabric/carpet and they can be hard to get rid of. Vacuum vacuum vacuum.

I just took in 2 stray cats and I just discovered they have/had fleas. I knew because I found flea "droppings" in my bed. Charming, I know A female flea can lay over 800 eggs a day or something rediculuos like that. I heard about a "flea bomb" but I tried to avoid it because I didnt know how safe it was for the kitties. Good luck.

Flea Bombs

Flea bombs are a way to deal with insect infestations that basically spread a fog of insecticide through your house. They can be one of the more effective ways to kill fleas, because they'll get all the eggs as well, but they are also one of the more annoying because you can't be in the house while they are going off.

If you're going to use one, follow the instructions closely on staying out of the house. Keep your pets out of the house as well. You should also give your pets a flea dip or bath just before you set it off, because if you don't your pet is just going to bring the fleas right back in. Also be aware that if you've got a dog or an outdoor cat, you need to do something about your yard as well - flea control nematodes and diatomaceous earth work well for killing the fleas in your yard. If you don't get the fleas in your yard, again you'll have a new source for them to come back into the house.

Usually a bomb will take some time - 8 hours or so is standard I believe.

Here are a couple you can take a look at:

Zodiac Fleatrol Fogger / Flea Bomb

This one is available here online and it costs about $13.00. It will kill all kinds of other bugs like ****roaches, spiders, and ants as well. The other good thing is that it's got insect growth regulator, which is a chemical that stops fleas from growing to adulthood. That will basically cut off the life cycle of the fleas and stop further infestation.

ANYTHING bob martin never works, any vet will tell you that.
I've been unfortunate to have had fleas in two different houses I've lived in and the only thing that got rid of them was professional stuff from the vets.
they gave me a huge can of spry that I had to spray EVERYWHERE in my flat (even the kitchen) and leave the house for a few hours and then hoover everywhere when I got back.
Those fleas were horrible, I still have scars from the bite marks
