| | | tingling hands and feet did anyone else get this when pregnant? kind of like pins and needles. i think it must be a weird pregnancy thing but i didn't get this last time. it's not painful just super annoying. i don't think i'm swelling, maybe fingers a little bit when it's hot but i can still wear my rings and my ankles look normal.
anyone know what it is and if i can do anything about it? |

| | Some women find that they get numbness and tingling in their arms and legs in the later stages of pregnancy, when their enlarging womb presses on a nerve. Moving your body into a different position so that this pressure is reduced can sometimes help - you have to experiment with positions to see what works. Pins and needles in your fingers may be caused by the shoulder strap of your bra being too tight and pressing on the nerves that go into your arm.
- http://www.babyworld.co.uk/informati...ns&needles.asp Pins and needles, especially in the hands, can be accompanied by some pain or numbness and occasionally weakness in the fingers. Usually this is caused by fluid build-up around the wrists, which compresses the nerves that run to the hand muscles and skin. This is known as carpal tunnel syndrome and tends to occur when there is also swelling in the ankles. For more information, please see the separate BUPA factsheet on Carpal tunnel syndrome.
If finger pain or numbness is an ongoing problem, a doctor may suggest wearing a moulded wrist splint, especially at night.

| | | yes! i had those when i was pregnant with my daughter (my first baby)
it got so bad, my entire left arm would go numb and i wouldn't be able to see out of my left eye. my physician said it was called an atypical migraine. and actually i still get them maybe once or twice a year. |

Did you get headaches at the same time? I've been getting way more headaches with this pregnancy but they don't seem to be related to the hands and feet thing, that's a recent development!
Thanks for the links petals, i have noticed that my mouse hand gets worse, was trying to ignore that fact! hmm, sitting with my legs crossed is prob bad too... |

| | If you're carrying your baby more toward the "back", it can press on spinal nerve centers, so they say.
Pressure from your enlarging midsection can also cause odd crampy feelings. I swear I had "period cramps" for all 9 months w/ The MiaKid. Not nice at all.
Headaches w/pregnancy can show up in part cause of the increased vascularity -- increase in blood volume --your body is handling during pregnancy. As a consequence the blood vessels dialate; can bring on headaches ranging from mild to really severe. My headaches were outta control bigtime w/my last pregnancy.
What does doc say about the tingly/pins-n-needles?
Luck! & hang in there.

| | ugh headaches had one all day yesterday. i think i'm sensitive to the changes in air pressure when the weather changes and a certain type of cloud always seem to bring one on, or does that sound bonkers??
thanks Chyia. i haven't asked the doc, i'm having almost 100% midwife care this time so i would ask her first but last week dippy preggo brain forgot to ask her so i'll wait and ask her next week. it's not bothering me *enough* to phone at this stage... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
