What do you say to someone whose baby has died?

Well, foetus. It was due in six weeks and today she found out it's dead and she has to give birth to it on Sunday. I feel like I want to send her a card because we're a long way apart but what to sayy?

oh shit, that's so horrible.

i guess just say that you're thinking of her and you're always at the end of the phone if she ever needs to talk? she'll know that you won't really know what to say and she'll just appreciate the fact that you sent the card because it shows you care.

something that's due in six weeks is practically a baby/person
coming out. Holy shit...don't hardly write anything,
the card itself says most of it, the rest, just write, sorry for your loss
less said the better

Imo this is a "real baby', i.e. @ its gestational age it would normally be a very viable premie under normal circumstances

So it's a loss of a person, who you never got the chance to fully incorporate into your life bc something went wrong

I think it's rly important to honour that. And to acknowledge her sorrow and bereavement.
Pain is pain; it shouldn't have to get quantified by a bunch of ifs &/or buts.

Give her you sympathy; try to stay in contact w/her and remind her that she is loved. Greif is dreadfully hard damn work, something that comes as a shock to most of us when we realize the truth of that

And I think you are very kind & sensitive to be so involved w/your friend & wanting to do what's best for her
xx'

This is good, I think.

I wouldn't say, "I'm sorry." but that might be because when my friend's dad died, she told me that people would say sorry she'd think, "What are you sorry for? Your dad didn't die."

I'm horrible at saying the right thing in situations like these though. Very mad. Never count on me for emotional support
