| | NOLA post-Katrina...eight months later Well, there WAS a thread about this, but...
I just got back from my first "real" trip home to New Orleans. (Going there to pack up my stuff in 13 hours doesn't count.) Feel free to read all about it at http://sweetdragon.livejournal.com/ - some of it is family stuff, but a lot of it deals with my feelings on the city and just being there again. Lots of photos of St. Bernard Parish, and they're pretty unsettling. |

| | | That is just really, really scary. There are news stories here about the Katrina aftermath every now and then (they've become less and less lately) but it's all mostly about the city areas, not the places like you photographed. It's such an unbelievable tragedy and i can't even imagine what it must be like to be faced with what appears in those images. |

| | | thanks for posting, that pretty unsettling stuff, but people need to understand the harsh reality of what people went through.
its weird, because you never really seem to hear anything about it, and what efforts are being made to rebuild/restore the city. |

| | | it's really, really important they don't forget about this. people still talk about it, but they seem to do so in a "that WAS terrible, the city is recovering though, so let's use this as a reason to bitch about politics" sort of way. i hate seeing things like this getting used for political agendas. people need homes and communities more than political rallies hundreds of miles away.
we haven't all forgotten though; i'm hoping to return in august. |

| | | Hey Anthai - can I friend you on LJ?
Is your home in St. Bernards Parish?
Mayoral elections must be coming up soon now, huh?
I'd really like to go back down for a week or two this summer; it's mostly a question of whether I can come up with the money to make the trip.
Thanks for posting. |

Thanks for posting. | Go ahead; what's your username?
BTW, I lived Uptown near Riverbend. I'm no longer in New Orleans, though I plan on going back in September. The elections are the 25th, and sadly, I found out about it too late to apply for an absentee ballot. It looks like it could go to Nagin, Landrieu or Forman at this point. |
