| | | this kind of shit pisses me off ay. why are people STILL closeminded about others sexual orientation? GET OVER IT.
as far as what certain flags represent, its going to be different for everyone. im pretty sure some of yall remember my discussing the confederate flag (and how it DOES NOT represent racists) in a certain thread a while back.
anyway, there was, is, and always will be homosexuals in the world. accept it, and befriend them.

Apparently being gay is contagious and will in fact teach the new generations that, that's the "choice" they should make. ::rolls eyes:: |

oh and i love your av btw. | lol Thanks. Yes, I agree. If you don't follow that sexual preference and it bothers you... then just go away and ignore it. It's not going to stop just because you're afraid of it. |

Oh, and this just furthers the idea that things are changing. I don't think enough people care about hating fags anymore to let it get in the way of a family business and its integrity.
I really, really admire that guy for acting the way he did, not because I love to fuck men or anything but because it's freakin' rare that someone in that situation stands their guard.

| | | <<I'm from New York and there (honestly) men generally acted like women were the most amazing things to have ever happened to this country. Of course everywhere you go there are weirdos, but it was just so calming to live in that situation. Here I just feel like I need to take a shower.>>
there are men like that here, too. in fact none of the men i hang out with (and the majority of my friends are men) act like skeezballs. there's good and bad with every place though; i couldn't see myself living in a city where people don't think to hold the door open for ya and acknowledge your existance. it's just part of the bad here are the fundies and conservatives, as well as the trash (and the latter is everywhere). |

| | | I love that people are bent out of shape over a rainbow flag, with people dividing between "it means something nasty" and "it's utterly innocuous." It's the complete reverse of the confederate flag debate, which again, proves that symbols are only defined by what meanings we choose to attach to them.
Rainbows are a naturally occurring weather phenomena. What they have to do with a buttsex beats the hell out of me.
My point? Either pro or con, both sides are retarded. |

| | | heh, as my dad would say..."those people need to get their minds out of the gutter!"
a flag, especially a rainbow flag, should not immediately make people thing of sex, either straight or gay, in a "wholesome" environment, wouldn't you think? i wonder why they don't make such a fuss over RAINBOW boulevard, a street in kansas...i mean, almost every business on this street has "rainbow" in their name and sometimes *gasp* a RAINBOW FLAG in their window. THEY MUST BE SODOMITES!!!
actually, perhaps that's why the rest of the state hates this city so much. |

My point? Either pro or con, both sides are retarded. | It's just the way humans operate- attaching great meaning to symbols. I don't see much of a way around it. I try not to be overly attached to them, but I have been raised in a society that recognizes certain symbols to mean certain things so whether I like it or not, I still react to them. My guess is that you do too. Did you really feel nothing when you saw the firemen raise a flag in the WTC rubble?
You could say that the guy with the rainbow flag has done what you prefer- ignored the meaning attached to the flag. It was just a gift from his son. It is other people who have made it a battlefield. |

And, it also depends on which bible has been read, don't the KKK have their own version of the bible?

But recently their dream has turned into a nightmare, all because of a flag they're flying outside. “It's a rainbow flag - to some people it means friendship to some people it means gay pride," says Knight. But for knight, it was just a souvenir from his 12-year-old son.
Knight says the local Meade newspaper is trying to put him out of business and was frustrated when it ran an article about the flag and did not even bother to contact him regarding why he put it up. In fact, most people we spoke to in Meade said they didn’t even know what the flag meant until the article ran. But once word got around, the reaction was harsh.
Knight says the radio station has called him threatening to remove the restaurant’s commercials if he does not remove the flag. A local pastor stopped by said it was equivalent to hanging women’s panties on a flag pole. When Knight jokingly said he might consider that – the preacher said he would have him arrested.
His business has suffered - down to only a few local customers. The folks in Meade who've boycotted say it's too offensive for them to eat there. Local resident, Keith Klassen says the flag is a slap in the face to the conservative community of Meade. “To me it's just like running up a Nazi flag in a Jewish neighborhood. I can't walk into that establishment with that flag flying because to me that's saying that I support what the flag stands for and I don't," says Klassen.
Knight says it's not meant to be a gay pride symbol but he doesn't mind if that's how it's taken.
“Any gay or lesbian people that do stop by will be treated with the best service I can give you," says Knight
But despite the local ridicule and loss of business, Knight is determined to stand his ground. “When this rainbow flag shreds, I will buy another one, and another one, and another one - just like my American flag, I'll buy another one."
Knight says his son gave him the flag after a trip to Dorothy's house, a museum about the Wizard of Oz. The flag reminded the boy of "somewhere over the rainbow." link (with video)
this is so unbelievably retarded. | this is how fucking stupid this country is.
