| | | "from Isreal with love" Quote: |
I don't know the whole story behind these images, but they say a lot on their own. Here, some Israeli girls have apparently been told to "sign" bombs directed at Lebanon, writing messages like "from Israel with love." Link (via lawrenceofcyberia and thismodernworld) Update: Caption, via AP, "Israeli girls write messages on a shell at a heavy artillery position near Kiryat Shmona, in northern Israel, next to the Lebanese border, Monday, July 17, 2006." Israeli girls write messages on a shell at a heavy artillery position near Kiryat Shmona, in northern Israel, next to the Lebanese border, Monday, July 17, 2006. Diplomatic efforts to end Israeli-Hezbollah fighting gained traction Monday, with Israeli officials saying the country would agree to halt fighting if its two captured soldiers were returned and Islamic guerrillas withdrew from the border. Publicly, the officials continued to insist their goal was to dismantle Hezbollah. But senior aides to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert office said he told his Italian counterpart, Romano Prodi, that Israel would accept cease-fire terms of Hezbollah releasing the Israeli soldiers and withdrawing from the border. i heard Anderson Cooper use the phrase "World War III" the other night and it stopped me dead in my tracks.
this picture has the same effect. |

I hate how it's little kids. Their parents should be ashamed. I wonder what it is they're telling their children. |

| | | I can't remember who said it (I think it was George Orwell), but the phase "In times of war, the first casualty is truth" rings true here.
I doubt it's happening on the other side for the simple reason that anyone who isn't Hizbollah is getting the hell out. Which is the majority of people in South Lebanon. The UN's Jan Egeland (head of emergency relief) said the bombing of Beirut was a violation of humanitarian law.
Protests against the Isreali attacks yesterday happened in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. The London demo drew between 7k (police estimate) and 20k (organisers estimate). I believe the Manchester and Edinburgh demos got around 3-5k each.
The British Jewish Board of Deputies are organising a solidarity rally at a high school in Kenton, London (don't ask me where abouts in London Kenton is). They're having a live video uplink to Northern Isreal, and the main slogan is "Yes to peace, no to terror" which is startingly similiar to the slogans yesterday (though I suspect the BoD mean Hizbollah terror).
Gush Shalom, the main peace organisation in Isreal, managed to attract 8,000 people to an anti-war demo in Jerusalem (main slogans: No to war, no to terror, Isreal out of Lebanon), which is much more than the "Isreal is good, Isreal is right no matter what" BoD meeting is expecting at their shindig tonight (2.5k to 5k).
It's interesting how this is going to pan out. Apart from how many body bags will be needed.

The majority of us have not experienced war so to judge what any child does while under attack is ridiculous.

Isreali youth have to serve a three year conscription in the IDF from 17, according to a friend of mine who served in the IDF.
Plus, Hamas, as far as I know, have a policy of NOT using child suicide bombers. I thought that was some other obscure militia. It's expressly harem to involve children in war, according to the Koran.
Not that it makes Hamas any better. But Isreal aren't that far off. |

I'm not reading that much into it, apart from Isreal trying to stoke up nationalist sentiment in a time of agressive war. Which would make it different from the US and UK... how, exactly? |
