| Thoughts on the Mars Rover I just watched the Mars rover land and cheered like a kid when touchdown happened. I feel moved by being virtually in the control room for this moment in history. It's amazing. We're on mars! Human beings! A thing built by these stupid, bickering fleshbags down on this Earth has put its tires down on the surface of another planet and it is going to drive around and take pictures and our great-grandchildren will look at those pictures in history books and laugh at the ****ty image quality and the fact that this was such a big deal at some point when we have come so far. And now I am actually crying , I guess? Because that's ****ing amazing. Human beings! The stupid ****house little squabbling ****ing brats who give so much of a **** about American Idol and who are shooting each other in churches and movie theaters just because they're crazy or they don't agree with each other. The ****ing morons who enslaved each other 150 years ago and JUST ****ING MET EACH OTHER 500 years ago and found out there was more than one kind of us, and those ****ing idiots managed to come together and ****ing do something, and they're still doing something and getting so much better, every single day.
And just as I finished typing this, a member of NASA just said in an interview on this livestream that every single person who is watching should be able to puff their chest out and say that's ours, that's OUR rover, and he's absolutely right, and it's just amazing. And everyone who complains about us is so wrong, because look at what we can do. Look at the ways we can come together. And we're so far away from where we could possibly be, and our lives and world could be so much ****ing better. Horrible things are happening every single day. But horrible **** used to happen so much more often and on such a wider scale, and it just keeps getting better. And I'll be damned if I'm not going to do every single thing that I can from my tiny little corner of the world to keep making it better.
I think that with the shootings and other terrible **** that's going on right now, we should stop and reflect on the positive parts of the human race. I wrote the above in a PM, but figured I should share. |
