Without exaggeration, Gore Vidal's works fundamentally contributed to the person I am today, starting with my discovering a rogue copy of "Myra Breckenridge" in the 6th grade and having one of my teachers call a "parent/teacher" conference when I did a book report on it.

R.I.P. Mr. Vidal, if there's indeed a heaven, I can imagine you savagely critiquing us mortals from that big old tea room in the sky....
