I liked Mike Oldfield and Mr Bean. The rest was pretty pants.

I watched some of the teams coming out, I do like that bit but I was sleepy so buggered off to bed half way through.
All in all it lasted too long and I don't really know why it was all about Britain. As noggin pointed out, the Beijing opening ceremony was just ****ing impressive, you know, explosions, fireworks... all that **** where you don't have to know anything about anything to enjoy the spectacle but the London was pretty much just "look at how amazing we are..." Apparently there was some kind of story/timeline thing but if you don't know about englands history it would've made no ****ing sense.

I've never watched an Olympic opening ceremony so I've got nothing to compare it to. I liked the inclusion of Wayne's World, the corgis, the bits that were inspired by books like Peter Pan, the cyclists with the glowing wings and the bit where it looked like they'd found five rings in the fires of Mordor.

At the start I thought it was really rubbish and fairly joy free, the video intros and segues were astonishingly bad considering he's a film director. I've never had a feeling of Britishness so I don't know what to think about all that, there were a lot of British things he could have included but I'm glad he didn't go for the cheesy stereotypical things. The only time I wanted to turn away and cringe was when Paul McCartney started his shocking version of Hey Jude.

The cauldron was ****ing amazing though, fire is awesome.

I agree with this. When I first heard the outline of the plans for this ceremony I was surprised. I think there could have been more dancing, cirque du soliel stuff and general stuff that looks really cool. They did alright with fireworks though.
