Kids' Lady Gaga anti-bullying video offends parents' group

Kids' Lady Gaga anti-bullying video offends parents' group - The Globe and Mail
Kids' Lady Gaga anti-bullying video offends parents' group

Oh, the irony. A group of parents in Burnaby, B.C. have launched a complaint over an anti-bullying video created by students, saying it's offensive.

The video, called Pink Project 2012, features 1,500 elementary and high school students from the Vancouver area, as well as students from one school in New York, dancing to the Lady Gaga song Born This Way. It was created to coincide with Pink Shirt Day, an anti-bullying campaign.

Students in the clip are shown dancing to the song, which features the chorus "I'm beautiful in my way 'cause God makes no mistakes, I'm on the right track baby I was born this way."

But The Parents' Voice, a civic party formed to oppose the anti-****phobia policy of Burnaby's school district, says the video is offensive on a number of levels. For starters, they say Lady Gaga isn't an appropriate learning resource and that the video "undermines curriculum goals as well as parents' and societal goals," according to Burnaby Now.

The group also says the video won't reduce bullying and doesn't send a message of inclusiveness to overweight or anorexic students, or those who can't dance, Burnaby Now quoted Parents' Voice member Gordon World as saying. Lady Gaga promotes sex and her song may also offend atheists, as it includes messages about God.

The group is calling on the B.C. government to take action against the video, which has been posted to YouTube.

None of the students featured in the video make sexual or other inappropriate moves. The whole purpose of the project is to bring students together and send the message that bullying won't be accepted.

Is the message in this student video offensive?

The Parents' Voice .org

Yeah, the best I can tell, it's a religious group that wants to be able to pull their kids out of classes where they're taught that ****sexuality is acceptable because of religious beliefs. I didn't exactly go over it in great detail or anything.

But the above paragraph makes it pretty clear they're a bunch of attention-whoring nutjobs.

They've got to be joking. Xtina covered body image, gender, sexuality and feeling like an outsider with "Beautiful", do people honestly expect that every song with a message has to tick every single box for every single potentiality for it to do any good?

" the video "undermines curriculum goals as well as parents' and societal goals...." OK, let's just hold onto the status quo, let the bullying continue and when bullied kids in the community start committing suicide, don't start *****ing about what should have been done
