They should be banning stupid dog owners (I mean dog owners who are stupid, not owners of stupid dogs) instead.
In scotland, we have the Control Of Dogs Act (Scotland) which I think is a much better idea than the BSL. It is often thought of as a doggie ASBO (but in the case of dogs it's actually called a DCN - Dog Control Notice) and is based around the idea of "deed not breed". If there is a problem dog (regardless of breed) then the owner will be ordered to adhere to certain conditions (keeping the dog on a lead, the dog wearing a muzzle, neutering, attending training classes....) otherwise they will lose their dog.
The aim of the Act is to change unwanted behaviours of both dog and owner before there is any danger. |
