| | | Iran has allies. Iraq didn't at the time. The U.S will have to deal with a lot of harsh consequences if and when they decide to attack.
I'm wondering whether or not the Arab League would want to do something if this happens. Probably not, but then again Iran promised rewards. I'm sure the Arab states in North Africa would take them up on it. They're already corrupt, so they haven't much to loose. Mauritania's leader is big on his military.

| | | I believe shock and awe tactics and a quick deep ground forces thrust might be able to succesfully and reasonably painlessly (for the USA and allies), remove Iran's nuclear program. The bit the USA can't do is occupation and that wouldn't be necessary.
Do we know, geographically, where Irans nuclear program is?

There was that part to it, but considering the profits that the USA gained from the war, and considering what happened following the war with the preservation of social and economic fascist structures in Japan and West Germany, it wasn't entirely down to altruism. Obviously that is to be expected, however the 'knight in shining armour/big brother protects everyone' image that is presented does tend to irk me. |

| | | Their army is made up of millions, as opposed to the thousands that Saddam had. The population itlsef is 70 fucking million, that's 5 times less than Iraq's. If anyone thinks this is gonna be a piece of cake, they gotta be kidding. |

Invasion of Iraq was a piece of cake for US and they could have formed up much greater forces for it, but chose not to. Imagine if all they had had to do was topple that statue and then leave. How many losses, a few dozen?
It might also be a good excuse to leave Iraq afterwards, infact they might have no choice. Iran might restart Iran-Iraq, but Iran and Shia Iraq vs USA vs Sunni in a nation size Beruit situation.
Edit: remember Iraq's army in desert storm was an awesome size, but useless.

They have countries who are using them until it gets too hot, but they have no allies. The noose has tightened around Iran. They feel the heat from the friction of that hemp on their neck, and are desperately grabbing at anything. They know the clock is ticking.

For what it's worth, circum, er, exorcism, I feel your pain. | Are you insane? Iran has plenty of allies. Chavez has been really friendly with Ahmednijad lately, too. Aww, does that make you angry? They have the nuclear technology that Iraq has been dreaming of. You're already too late - they have been working on their military equipment since the 80's. Send your sons to this war, Ted. I will laugh the day the Iranians decide to send you their ashes.
When's your website gonna be up again? I want to see pictures of your blister-ridden face. Your white hair is to die for, Ted. |
