none of them are white.
tigz knows her east bay, and there are no white people in richmond.
this is the only pic i can find. they've arrested 5-6 guys on the major charges, and are on the hunt for others.
manuel ortega, 21.
the others are minors, so they're not releasing much info on them. they were arraigned the other day, and on our news here they showed them walking to and from and named them, but that was it.
it's my understanding, however, that they're all being put on trial as adults.
but their privacy is being taken care of like a minors.
some of them are only 15.
jesus christ.
and this isn't a white people thing.
i mean, it is.
but it's also a sexism thing. where the poor and marginalized in communities (such as Richmond, in this instance those groups happen to be latinos and blacks) are not set up for success in the public school system, nor are they often supported by a totally functional family due to divorce, incarceration of parents, drug use, poverty, etc, etc. etc.
anyway. teenage boys who grow up in this kind of community, where violence, sex, and drugs are HIGHLY glorified by their peers and some aspects of medial
thus, participating in that shit makes you glorified.
within your peer group. and if immature teens are preprogrammed to want anything, it's recognition and status in their peer groups.
that's my sociology bullshit on this issue.
and i dont need to hear any
kr bullshit about stereotypes.
in richmond, in oakland, this is the case, alot of the time, sadly.
are all black or latino or any minority group in general destined to this -- HELL NO. but when it all collides, in marginalized communities. this shit happens.
i honestly think these boys thought it was okay to do what they did, or okay enough that they wouldn't get caught, or that there wouldn't be consequences. or that the girl would just shut up.
and THATS a problem that needs to be addressed WAY more than school security.
how to raise a decent male when they have few constructive rolemodels, and a whole deck of socioeconomic problems stacked against them.
idk. my friend is a teacher at the middle school that feeds into the HS where this happened. we had a long talk about this issue, and she said alot of what i just did to me. and i take her word for it. she's taught those exact kids and their siblings everyday for years.
