I had an instructer who would refer to his life parter. So we all thought he was gay, until he mentioned it was a she. Then he explained that he said it was because he "wanted to use inclusive language," and not alienate gay people. I found that a bit patronizing myself, but he meant well.

I often call my boyfriend my Lesbian Life Partner, but I don't know if that's the same.
